Eminence, Missouri
Eminence is a city and the county seat of Shannon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 515 at the 2020 census. History A post office called Eminence has been in operation since 1844. According to one account, Eminence was so named on account of its lofty elevation, however, this interpretation is disputed. Geography Eminence is located in the center of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Missouri's largest national park and the nation's first protected river system. Popular activities in the Eminence area include canoeing, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Eminence maintains a small-town feel, but in the summer becomes a resort city with several locally owned restaurants, motels, bed & breakfasts, including America's largest trail riding establishment. Eminence is a home rule class city in Henry County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 2,498 at the 2010 census, up from 2,231 at the 2000 census. It is home to the Eminence Historic Commercial District. Eminence is the largest city in Henry County. Eminence is home to the loudspeaker manufacturing company, Eminence Speaker. The area was home to Eminence Male and Female High School which grew to become Eminence College. Eminence's school teams compete as the Warriors. History The area post office, established in 1836, was moved to Eminence in 1850, and named for its supposed location at the highest point on the railroad line between Louisville and Lexington. The city was formally incorporated in 1851. The Eminence Historic Commercial District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Eminence Junior-Senior High School is a public high school located in Eminence, Indiana. It serves grades 6–12. More than 95 percent of the student body was white in 2023.
