Emilio E. Huyke Coliseum (Spanish: ''Coliseo Emilio E. Huyke'') is an indoor sporting arena located in Humacao, Puerto Rico. The coliseum is named after sports writer and former Secretary of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, Emilio E. Huyke. The coliseum's seating capacity is 1,500 seats. Humacao, Puerto Rico
Humacao () is a city and municipality in Puerto Rico located in the eastern coast of the island, north of Yabucoa; south of Naguabo; east of Las Piedras; and west of Vieques Passage. Caciques de Humacao was a professional basketball team based in Humacao, Puerto Rico. The club competed in the National Superior Basketball (, BSN). History In 2010, Antonio "Tonin" Casillas, owner of the Grises de Humacao, decided to give the franchise a makeover and changed the name to Caciques de Humacao. The main reason was to reflect a more positive image on a city which has always been known as the "gray" city. The change also shifted the public opinion on to the Taino heritage of the city and honors the great chieftain Jumacao who fought a rebellion against the Spanish over 500 years ago. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, abbreviated as BSN, is the first-tier-level professional men's basketball league in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1929 and is organized by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of 12 teams, of which the most successful has been the Vaqueros de Bayamón with 16 titles as of 2022. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. Emilio E. Huyke Colón (February 28, 1912 – December 17, 1983) was a Puerto Rican writer, boxing television broadcaster and sports enthusiast. He was a sports administrator in the Caribbean, as the head of various sports organizations in the Caribbean area. He is a member of the Puerto Rican Sports Hall of Fame. In Puerto Rico, Huyke is known as the "father of basketball" (in that nation).
