Trasilla (also called Tarsila, Tharsilla, Thrasilla) and Emiliana (also called Aemiliana, Emilie, Æmiliana) were aunts of Pope Gregory I and are venerated as virgin saints of the sixth century. They appear in the ''Roman Martyrology'', Trasilla on 24 December, Emiliana on 5 January. Life Trasilla and Emiliana were sisters who came from an ancient Roman noble family, the gens Anicia. Their brother, Senator Gordian, was a rich patrician who owned "a magnificent villa on the Caelian Hill and large estates in Sicily", and who became the father of Pope Gregory I. Emilíana Torrini (born 16 May 1977) is an Icelandic singer and songwriter. Her works include the 2009 single "Jungle Drum (song), Jungle Drum" and the 1999 album ''Love in the Time of Science''. She performed "Gollum's Song" for the 2002 film ''The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers''. Early life Emilíana was born in Iceland, where she grew up in Kópavogur. Her father, Salvatore Torrini, is Italians, Italian (from Naples), while her mother, Anna Stella Snorradóttir, is Icelanders, Icelandic. Because of Icelandic name, name regulations in Iceland when she was born, her father had to change his name to "Davíð Eiríksson", and she had to use the corresponding patronymic in her full name, Emilíana Davíðsdóttir. Cesare Emiliani (8 December 1922 – 20 July 1995) was an Italian-American scientist, geologist, micropaleontologist, and founder of paleoceanography, developing the timescale of marine isotope stages, which despite modifications remains in use today. He established that the ice ages of the last half million years or so are a cyclic phenomenon, which gave strong support to the hypothesis of Milankovitch and revolutionized ideas about the history of the oceans and of the glaciations. He was also the proponent of Project "LOCO" (for Long Cores) to the U.S. National Science Foundation. The project was a success providing evidence of the history of the oceans and also serving to test the hypotheses of seafloor spreading and plate tectonics. ''Gephyrocapsa huxleyi'', also called ''Emiliania huxleyi'', is the most abundant species of coccolithophore in modern oceans found in almost all ecosystems from the equator to sub-polar regions, and from nutrient rich upwelling zones to nutrient poor oligotrophic waters. It is one of thousands of different photosynthetic plankton that freely drift in the photic zone of the ocean, forming the basis of virtually all marine food webs. It is studied for the extensive blooms it forms in nutrient-depleted waters after the reformation of the summer thermocline. Like other coccolithophores, ''G. huxleyi'' is a single-celled phytoplankton covered with uniquely ornamented calcite disks called coccoliths. ''Emiliodonta'' is an extinct genus of bivalve in the extinct family Praenuculidae. The genus is one of three genera in the subfamily Concavodontinae. ''Emiliodonta'' is known solely from late Ordovician, Caradocian epoch, fossils found in South America. The genus contains a single accepted species, ''Emiliodonta cuerdai''. ''Emiliana'' is an extinct genus of planthopper in the Tropiduchidae tribe Emilianini and containing the single species ''Emiliana alexandri''. The species is known only from the Middle Eocene Parachute Member, part of the Green River Formation, in the Piceance Creek Basin, Garfield County, northwestern Colorado, USA. History and classification ''Emiliana alexandri'' is known only from one fossil, the part and counterpart holotype, specimen number "PIN no. 4621/546". The specimen is composed of a single isolated tegmen which is preserved as a compression fossil in sedimentary rock. The fossil was recovered by David Kohls of Colorado Mountain College and A. P. The ruddy cuckoo-dove (''Macropygia emiliana'') is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is a medium-sized, reddish brown cuckoo-dove, found in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. It is rated as a species of least concern on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Endangered Species.
