Frederick Rowland Emett OBE (22 October 190613 November 1990), known as Rowland Emett (with the forename sometimes spelled "Roland" s his middle name appears on his birth certificateand the surname frequently misspelled "Emmett"), was an English cartoonist and constructor of whimsical kinetic sculpture. Early life Emett was born in New Southgate, London, the son of a businessman and amateur inventor, and the grandson of Queen Victoria's engraver. He was educated at Waverley Grammar School in Birmingham, where he excelled in drawing, caricaturing his teachers and vehicles and machinery. When he was only 14 he took out a patent on a gramophone volume control. He studied at Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts and one of his landscapes, ''Cornish Harbour'', was exhibited at the Royal Academy; it is now in the Tate collection. Josh Emett is a chef from New Zealand. He is co-owner of Onslow restaurant at 9 Princes st Auckland and The Oyster Inn on Waiheke Island with his wife Helen. He is the co-founder of Rata restaurant in Queenstown and restaurant chain Go-To Collection which includes Madam Woo, and Hawker and Roll. Emett Clay Choate (May 21, 1891 – August 14, 1974) was an American lawyer and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Education and career Born in Columbus, Ohio, Choate received a Bachelor of Laws from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1914. Choate was a United States Army major from 1917 to 1918, during World War I. He was in private practice in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from 1917 to 1921, in New York City, New York from 1922 to 1925, and in Miami, Florida from 1925 to 1954. Federal judicial service Choate was nominated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on June 22, 1954, to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, to a new seat authorized by 68 Stat. 8. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 20, 1954, and received his commission the same day. He assumed senior status on January 31, 1965. Geoffrey Emett Blackman (1903-1980) was the Sibthorpian Professor of Rural Economy at the University of Oxford from 1945 to 1970 and Director of Agricultural Research Council Unit of Experimental Agronomy from 1950 to 1970. The Biology War Committee (BWC) was jointly established by the ''Association of Applied Biologists'', the ''British Ecological Society'', and the ''Society for Experimental Biology'' following discussions that began in 1940 and came to fruition in late 1941. Answerable to the Joint Government Committee of research organisations (Agricultural Research Council, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Medical Research Council), the BWC sought to inform government about ongoing biological research in universities and research institutes, and to identify new projects that might help the war effort.
