Emerging Scotland
Emerging Scotland is a Scottish international rugby union team that represents Scotland in selected matches, tours and competitions. Composed of Scotland qualified players only, mostly uncapped or at the beginning of their careers, it forms part of the development pathway to the senior Scotland team. It is not to be confused with the Scotland 'A', the national 'A' team which competes and is a level below the national side but with no age restrictions, nor with the Scotland U-20s with strict age limits that competes in the Under-20 Six Nations and Rugby World Cup. Thistle
Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterized by leaves with sharp spikes on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae. Prickles can also occur all over the planton the stem and on the flat parts of the leaves. These prickles protect the plant from herbivores. Typically, an involucre with a clasping shape similar to a cup or urn subtends each of a thistle's flower heads. The typically feathery pappus of a ripe thistle flower is known as thistle-down. The spininess varies considerably by species. For example, '' Cirsium heterophyllum'' has very soft spines while '' Cirsium spinosissimum'' is the opposite. Typically, species adapted to dry environments are more spiny. List Of Scotland National Rugby Union Players
This is a list of Scottish national rugby union players, i.e. those who have played for the Scotland national rugby union team. The list only includes players who have played in a test match (rugby union), Test match. In 2023, the Scottish Rugby Union made the decision to award caps to 56 players who only took part in 23 games which had not been considered full tests (during or just after the Second World War, and against emerging nations in the late 20th century). Scotland Women's National Rugby Union Team
The Scotland women's national rugby union team represents Scotland in women's international rugby union and is governed by the Scottish Rugby Union. The team competes in the annual Women's Six National Championship and has competed in five of the Women's Rugby World Cups since their hosted debut in 1994. The Nation plays an important role in the rugby world stage. History Scotland Women's first official test match was played against Ireland at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh on 14 February 1993, ending in a 10 - 0 win to the hosts. Scotland National Under-16 Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national under-16 rugby union team is one of several junior national rugby union teams behind the Scottish national side. It is sometimes known as the Scotland Schools national team. Current set up Scotland now run three Under 16 sides. The three sides - comprising 50 players in total - are split into three colours:- Red, Green and Blue. The Red and Blue U16s are home-based players; whilst the Green U16s side is composed of Scottish Qualified players based outside of Scotland. Scotland National Under-18 Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national under-18 rugby union team is the under-18 team of the Scotland national rugby union team in the sport of rugby union. History Under-18 became a recognised age-grade in European rugby in 2004. European Championship Scotland took part in the early editions of the European Under-18 Rugby Union Championship, coming third in 2005 and fourth in 2006, on both occasions playing Italy for third place. The team, after this did not take part in the competition again until 2011. Having missed out on participating in the elite division during the qualifying, the team was grouped in the tier-two first division. Scotland National Under-19 Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national under-19 rugby union team is one of several junior national rugby union teams behind the Scottish national side. Starting in 2008, the International Rugby Board scrapped its under-21 and under-19 world championships in favour of a single under-20 competition, the IRB Junior World Championship. Scotland accordingly replaced its under-21 and under-19 sides with a new under-20 side. The Under 19s regularly played until 2010 before being scrapped. The age grade is still very occasionally used by Scotland. In July 2014, the Under 18 boss Eddie Pollock named an Under 19 squad for a double header in August 2014 against Romanian age grades. Scotland Club XV
The Scotland national Club XV rugby union team is one of several national rugby union teams behind the Scottish national side. The national Club XV takes the best players from club rugby in Scotland to form a side that regularly competes with a similar Ireland Club XV. The two teams play each other annually for the Dalriada Cup. The Scotland Club XV side also regularly play with the similar England Counties XV since 2014. The French also have a Club XV side named the France Federale which the Scotland Club XV have played. Scotland Club XV has also played a Wales Club XV. Scotland B National Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national B rugby union team was one of several national rugby union teams behind the Scottish national side. It was largely used as a development side and began in the era when Scotland had little in the way of an age-grade pathway. It has now been disbanded - having been supplanted by the age-grade national teams; and the Scotland 'A' side. However the 'B' side was not the same as the 'A' side; and for a period between 1990 and 1992 Scotland ran both 'A' and 'B' international sides. Players such as Cameron Glasgow and Ian Jardine have 'A' and 'B' caps. Scotland National Rugby Sevens Team
The Scotland national rugby sevens team competes in the Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Commonwealth Games. It also competed World Rugby Sevens Series although it has been replaced by a combined Great Britain team in this competition. The head coach is Ciaran Beattie, supported by manager Sean Lamont and skills coach Graham Shiel. During 2006, the side were in danger of no longer competing in the Sevens World Series due to the financial problems faced by the Scottish Rugby Union. However, they gained a reprieve when the International Rugby Board announced that a leg of the Sevens World Series would be held at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, starting in 2007. The SRU then announced that the Scotland sevens team would compete in all eight legs of the Sevens World Series, and draw players from the country's national academy. Scotland National Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national rugby union team represents the Scottish Rugby Union in men's international rugby union. The team takes part in the annual Six Nations Championship, where they are the current Doddie Weir Cup holders. They also participate in the Rugby World Cup, which takes place every four years. The history of the team dates from 1871, when the Scottish rugby team played their first official test match, winning 1–0 against England at Raeburn Place. Scotland competed in the Five Nations from the inaugural tournament in 1883, winning it 14 times outright—including the last Five Nations in 1999—and sharing it another eight.
