The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Mato Grosso ( – ) is one of the states of Brazil, the List of Brazilian states by area, third largest by area, located in the Central-West Region, Brazil, Central-West region. The Brazilian Democratic Movement (, MDB) is a Brazilian political party. Emanuel Pinheiro (born 12 April 1965) is a Brazilian lawyer and politician affiliated with the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB). He was a city councilor in the city of Cuiabá, as well as a state deputy. He had been the mayor of Cuiabá from 2017-2024. Biography Pinheiro is the son of former deputy Emanuel Pinheiro da Silva Primo and Dona Maria Helena de Freitas. He is married to Márcia Khun Pinheiro and has two children. In 1988, at 23 years old, he was elected to the Municipal Chamber of Cuiabá as a member of the PFL. He was reelected in 1992 with the third highest vote share. In 1994, he was elected as a state deputy, and was reelected in 1998 with more than 14,000 votes. In 2000, he ran to become mayor of Cuiabá, with Odete Trechand as his vice-mayoral pick.
