Ely Barbosa
Ely Barbosa ( Vera Cruz, 1939 – São Paulo, January 19, 2007) was a Brazilian comics artist. He started working with comics in the early 1970s with his studio, which produced the Os Trapalhões comic book for Bloch publishing house. In 1976, he released his own characters: Turma da Fofura and Turma do Cacá, initially in children's books, but which, with their success, quickly gained comics, first by the publisher RGE and later by the editora Abril. In the 1980s, new characters emerged, such as Amendoins, Gordo and Patrícia, all with their own comic books, which were published until 1992. Barbosa also produced animations and TV commercials, plays and children's television series with his characters, such as ''Tutti-Frutti'' (winner in 1983 of the APCA Television Award for best children's TV show) and ''Boa Noite, Amiguinhos'' in the 1980s and ''Fofura na TV'', in the 1990s. Master of National Comics () is one of the categories of Prêmio Angelo Agostini, the most traditional Brazilian award dedicated to comics that has been held since 1985 by Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP). History The "Master of National Comics" category has been part of Prêmio Angelo Agostini since its first edition, in 1985. It is aimed to reward artists who have been dedicated to Brazilian comics for at least 25 years. The four honorees of this first edition were chosen by AQC-ESP board. The following year, the winners were elected by open vote for members of AQC-ESP and comics artists associations from other Brazilian states (and, later, for any interested person, whether comics professionals or readers). The Angelo Agostini's 18th edition, in 2002, exceptionally awarded 13 people as "Master of National Comics" instead of the traditional three names. Galerie Lambiek is a Dutch comic book store and art gallery in Amsterdam, founded on November 8, 1968 by Kees Kousemaker (, – Bussum, ). His son Boris Kousemaker has been the owner since 2007. From 1968 to 2015, it was located in the Kerkstraat, but in November 2015, the store moved to Koningsstraat 27. As of 2018, Lambiek is the oldest comics store in Europe, and the oldest worldwide still in existence. The name "Lambiek" originated as a misspelling of the name of the comics' character Lambik, from the popular '' Suske & Wiske'' comic book series created by Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen. Os Trapalhões
Os Trapalhões () was a Brazilian comedy group and a television series of the same name created by Wilton Franco. Its members Dedé Santana, Zacarias, Mussum and their leader Didi Mocó (Renato Aragão). The name ''Os Trapalhões'' (which can be translated as ''The Bumbling Ones'' or ''The Clumsy Ones'') is derived from the Portuguese verb ''atrapalhar'', which means the opposite of ''helping'', ''to do something the wrong way'' or ''to Those that confuse''. The name is translated "Tramps" in English DVD subtitles. It originally aired on Rede Tupi from 1973 to 1977 and the show later moved to Rede Globo and remained there from 1977 to 1995. Universo HQ ("Comics Universe") is a Brazilian website about comics and considered the most important Brazilian information source on comics-related news. History Universo HQ was created by Samir Naliato and first aired on January 5, 2000. After six months, he invited the journalist Sidney Gusman to become the website's editor. Gusman also invited Sérgio Codespoti and Marcelo Naranjo to work with them, followed by many different collaborators during the years. The first journalistic highlight to Universo HQ was in 2000, when artist Jerry Robinson had an infarction during a visit to São Paulo. Editora Abril is a major Brazilian publisher and printing company and one of the biggest media holdings in Latin America. The company was founded in 1950 by Victor Civita in São Paulo and is now part of Grupo Abril. The APCA Television Award ( Portuguese: ''Prêmio APCA de Televisão'') is one of the areas covered by the APCA Award, a traditional Brazilian award created in 1956 by the São Paulo Association of Theater Critics (now the São Paulo Association of Art Critics). Brazilian comics (known in Brazilian Portuguese as ''HQs, gibis, revistinhas, historietas'', ''quadrinhos'' or ''tirinhas'') started in the 19th century, adopting a satirical style known as cartoon, charges or caricature that would later be cemented in the popular comic strips.
