Elwyn Roy King
Elwyn Roy King, DSO, DFC (13 May 1894 – 28 November 1941) was a fighter ace in the Australian Flying Corps (AFC) during World War I. He achieved twenty-six victories in aerial combat, making him the fourth highest-scoring Australian pilot of the war, and second only to Harry Cobby in the AFC. A civil pilot and engineer between the wars, he served in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) from 1939 until his death. Born in Bathurst, New South Wales, King initially saw service as a lighthorseman in Egypt in 1916. He transferred to the AFC as a mechanic in January 1917, and was subsequently commissioned as a pilot. Posted to No. 4 Squadron, he saw action on the Western Front flying Sopwith Camels and Snipes. He scored seven of his "kills" in the latter type, more than any other pilot. His exploits earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Distinguished Service Order, and a mention in despatches. Elwyn Seelye (October 27, 1848 – October 14, 1920) was the founder of the New York State Historical Association and the first custodian of the Lake George battlefield site. Early years Elwyn Seelye was born October 27, 1848, in Queensbury, Warren County, New York. His family was from New England and was prominent in the Indian wars of the New England Colonies. His great-grandfather, Nehemiah Seelye, was one of the patentees of Queensbury, and an officer in the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War. Elwyn Roberts (1931 – February 2009) was a Welsh Anglican priest. Roberts was educated at Bangor University; Keble College, Oxford; and St Michael's College, Llandaff. He was ordained deacon in 1955 and priest in 1956. After a curacy in Bangor he was Librarian of St Michael's College, Llandaff. Elwyn Stuart Richardson (8 July 1925 – 24 December 2012) was a New Zealand educator. He is best known for his book ''In the Early World'' a record of the development of his educational philosophy while working at a small country school in Northland, New Zealand from 1949 to 1962. On the strength of his early work, the school was granted ‘experimental status’ by Clarence Beeby, Director of Education, a special consideration that allowed him to develop his own teaching methods and curriculum largely unimpeded by school inspectors. From 1969 to 1972 Richardson worked at American universities as a visiting lecturer.
