Eluanbi
Cape Eluanbi or Oluanpi, also known by other names, is the southernmost point on the island of Taiwan. It is located in within the Hengchun Township in Pingtung County. Names ''Éluánbí'' is the pinyin romanization of the Mandarin pronunciation of its Chinese name These characters literally mean "Goose Bell Nose", but actually transcribe the local Hokkien pronunciation ''Gô-lôan'', used as a transliteration of the Paiwan ' ("sail"). This may be a reference to nearby Sail Rock. The "nose" in the name is a dialectical term for a cape, as in nearby Cape Maobitou. Under the Qing, it was sometimes known as "Linhaishan". Under Japanese rule, the cape was known as or Garanbi from the Japanese pronunciation of characters in Eluanbi. Eluanbi Lighthouse
Eluanbi Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on Cape Eluanbi, the southernmost point of Taiwan, which separates Taiwan's South Bay from Banana Bay and the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea from the Philippine Sea. It is near Eluan Village in the township of Hengchun in Pingtung County, Taiwan. The lighthouse is open to the public all year around. Hengchun is also the only urban township in the southern part of Pingtung County. Hengchun has a land area of and has a population of 30,859 as of December 2014. The city of Hengchun is the entryway to Kenting National Park, the southernmost National Park in the country. With pristine beaches and a vibrant tourist industry, the Hengchun area often attracts more travelers than local residents. The city itself was once completely surrounded by a city wall; now about half of the wall remains intact, as well as the four city gates. Cape Maobitou
Cape Maobitou is a cape in the township of Hengchun in Pingtung County, Taiwan. It lies within Kenting National Park and forms the western boundary of South Bay. It is one of the southernmost points on Taiwan Island, sits opposite to the Cape Eluanbi in the southeast. Name ''Māobítou'' is the pinyin romanization of the Mandarin pronunciation of the Chinese name, written in traditional characters and in simplified characters. It literally means "Cat Nose Head" but ''bítou'' is a simply a clarifying dialectical variation of ''bí'', itself a dialectical name for a headland. Pingtung County
Pingtung County is a county located in southern Taiwan. It has a warm tropical monsoon climate and is known for its agriculture and tourism. Kenting National Park, Taiwan's oldest national park, is located in the county. The county seat is Pingtung City. Geology Of Taiwan
The island of Taiwan was formed approximately 4 to 5 million years ago at a convergent boundary between the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate. In a boundary running the length of the island and continuing southwards, the Eurasian Plate is sliding under the Philippine Sea Plate. In the northeast of the island, the Philippine Sea Plate slides under the Eurasian Plate. Most of the island comprises a huge fault block tilted to the west. A sail is a tensile structure—which is made from fabric or other membrane materials—that uses wind power to propel sailing craft, including sailing ships, sailboats, windsurfers, ice boats, and even sail-powered land vehicles.
