Elstermühlgraben
The Elstermühlgraben (litt.: ''Elster mill race'' or ''Elster mill ditch'') is an approximately long, now partially underground mill race, mill canal in the city of Leipzig, Germany, which has existed as an artificial tributary of the White Elster for more than 800 years. Course In its current, repeatedly corrected course, the Elstermühlgraben originates as a right-hand branch of the Elster flood channel, shortly before it receives the White Elster coming from the left and flows into the Elster basin at the Palmengarten weir. It initially flows in a northeasterly direction towards the Leipzig-Mitte, city center, then forms a knee at the level of the street called Ranstädter Steinweg (which it passes under) and continues to flow in a northwesterly direction between Waldstraßenviertel and Rosental back to the White Elster, before finally flowing back into it. Waldstraßenviertel (English: Forest Street Quarter/Neighbourhood), is a neighbourhood in the north west of Leipzig, Leipzig's borough Leipzig-Mitte, Mitte in Saxony, Germany. It is considered one of the largest complete areas of Gründerzeit buildings in Europe and is therefore considered of important cultural and heritage status. Saints Bridge (Leipzig)
The Saints Bridge () is a footbridge, bridge for cyclists and pedestrians in Leipzig. It crosses the Elstermühlgraben, which utilises the old course of the White Elster. Location and Design Saints Bridge connects Moschelesstraße with Am Elsterwehr street in Leipzig's Bachviertel neighbourhood in the Zentrum-West district. The bridge before it on the Elstermühlgraben is the Peterssteg, the bridge after it is the Marschnerbrücke. Saints Bridge is a steel arch bridge 25 Metre, metres (82.0 Foot (unit), feet) long and 4.5 metres (14.8 feet ) wide. In addition to the bank supports, it has two supports. Prince Józef Antoni Poniatowski (; 7 May 1763 – 19 October 1813) was a Polish general, minister of war and army chief, who became a Marshal of the French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars. A nephew of the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Stanisław II August (), Poniatowski began his military career in 1780 in the Austrian army, where he attained the rank of colonel. Rosental
The Rosental is a , park-like part of the northern Leipzig Riverside Forest, Leipzig floodplain forest in Leipzig, Germany. It is bordered by the Elstermühlgraben (Elster mill ditch) to the south and west, the small river Parthe to the north and the Leipzig Zoological Garden, Leipzig Zoo to the east. History The name Rosental was first mentioned in a document in 1318. The forest, which was owned by the Electorate of Saxony, Saxon electors, was sold to the Leipzig council by John George II, Elector of Saxony on 1 September 1663. As the agreed purchase price of 17,142 Meissen gulden, guilders was offset against the elector's debts to the city, the seller was left with less than 6,000 guilders. His grandson Augustus II the Strong later contested this deal and accused the Leipzig council of having fraudulently obtained the contract. White Elster
The White Elster (, ) is a river in central Europe. It is a right tributary of the Saale. The source of the White Elster is in the westernmost part of the Czech Republic, in the territory of Hazlov. After a few kilometres, it flows into eastern Germany where it cuts through the Vogtland in (according to the ''Encyclopædia Britannica'') a "deep and picturesque valley". In Germany it flows through the states of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. The White Elster flows through the cities of Plauen, Greiz, Gera, Zeitz, Pegau and Leipzig, and into the river Saale in Halle.
