Eloisa Cianni (23 June 1932 – 27 May 2022) was an Italian actress, model and beauty pageant A beauty pageant is a competition in which the contestants are judged and ranked based on various physical and mental attributes. Cianni was born in Rome as Aloisa Stukin, with the surname derived from her Polish adoptive father Stanislaus Stukin, who had married her mother Ida Furnace. In 1952 she won the Miss Italia beauty contest, and one year later she was elected Miss Europe. Cianni subsequently started a career as model and actress, debuting in the Gianni Franciolini's 1953 comedy film '' Villa Borghese''. Cianni died in Morlupo on 27 May 2022, at the age of 89. Gianni Franciolini
Gianni Franciolini (1 June 1910 – 1 January 1960) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He directed 19 films between 1939 and 1959. Life and career Born in Florence, in 1929 he moved to Paris to study journalism; there he came into contact with the artistic avant-garde of the time, particularly with Eugène Deslaw. During this time, he was assistant director of Georges Lacombe and directed the documentary ''Vérité sur l'Italie''. In 1938, he came back in Italy country where he collaborated as a screenwriter and as an assistant director for Camillo Mastrocinque and Mario Soldati, among others. In 1940 he debuted as a feature film director with '' Inspector Vargas''. In the post-war, Franciolini specialised in neo-realist comedies and genre films, often collaborating with Cesare Zavattini. Miss Europe is a beauty pageant for women from all over Europe. It was established in February 1927 by , the European distributor of Paramount, as a one-off event where the winner was to star in a film directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. After the initial twelve-person jury couldn't decide between 10 contestants, a runoff election was held where Murnau chose the winner. Murnau ended up choosing Štefica Vidačić of Yugoslavia as the winner and the first ever Miss Europe. Miss Europe was later re-established in December 1928 by French journalist Maurice de Waleffe (1874–1946), who also created, in 1920, what by 1927 had become the Miss France pageant.
