Elnaz Rekabi
Elnaz Rekabi ( fa, الناز رکابی, born 20 August 1989) is an Iranian sport climber. She participated at the 2021 IFSC Climbing World Championships, being awarded the bronze medal in the women's combined event. Rekabi has also finished on the podium three times at the IFSC Climbing Asian Championships, with one silver and two bronze medals. She made global headlines in 2022 when she violated Iran's mandatory hijab rule while participating in the 2022 IFSC Climbing Asian Championships in Seoul, South Korea. Occurring during the Mahsa Amini protests, it was widely interpreted as an intentional violation to signal support for the protests. Mahsa Amini Protests
Civil unrest and protests against the government of Iran associated with the death in police custody of Mahsa Amini ( fa, مهسا امینی) began on 16 September 2022 and are ongoing as of December 2022. Amini had been arrested by the Guidance Patrol for allegedly violating Iran's mandatory hijab law by wearing her hijab "improperly" while visiting Tehran from Saqqez. According to eyewitnesses, she had been severely beaten by Guidance Patrol officers, an assertion denied by Iranian authorities. As the protests spread from Amini's hometown of Saqqez to other cities in the province of Kurdistan and throughout the country, the government responded with widespread Internet blackouts, nationwide restrictions on social media usage, tear gas and gunfire. Sport Climbing
Sport climbing (or Bolted climbing) is a form of rock climbing that relies on permanent anchors (or bolts), permanently fixed into the rock for climber protection, in which a rope that is attached to the climber is clipped into the anchors to arrest a fall; it can also involve climbing short distances with a crash pad underneath as protection. This is in contrast to traditional climbing where climbers must place removable protection as they climb. Sport climbing usually involves lead climbing and toproping techniques, but free solo and deep-water solo (i.e. no protection) climbing on sport routes is also sometimes possible. Since sport climbing routes do not need to follow traditional climbing route lines where protection can be placed into natural features (e.g. cracks), they tend to follow more direct lines up crags. Iranian Protests Against Compulsory Hijab
The Girls of Enghelab protests ( fa, دختران انقلاب) are protests against the compulsory hijab in Iran, part of the wider Iranian Democracy Movement. The protests were inspired by Vida Movahed, an Iranian woman known as the Girl of Enghelab Street ( fa, دختر خیابان انقلاب), who stood in the crowd on a utility box on Enghelab Street (Revolution Street) in Tehran on 27 December 2017 during the 2017–2018 Iranian protests who tied her hijab, a white headscarf, to a stick, and waved it to the crowd as a flag. She was arrested on that day and was released temporary on bail a month later, on 28 January 2018. Seyed Hamid Sajjadi Hazaveh ( fa, سید حمید سجادی هزاوه, born 21 March 1969) is the current Minister of Sport and Youths of Iran, since August 25, 2021. He is also an Iranian retired middle distance and long distance runner. He represented Iran at the 1992 Summer Olympics and 1996 Summer Olympics. Sajjadi holds multiple indoor and outdoor national track records for Iran. Running career Sajjadi ran the men's 5,000 m race at the 1992 Summer Olympics, although he did not qualify past the preliminaries with a time of 14:04.54 (min:sec). Sadaf Khadem ( fa, صدف خادم; born January 23, 1995) is a female boxer from Iran. She held her first official fight on April 14, 2019, where she defeated Anne Chauvin from France. This fight meant she was the first Iranian woman to be part of an official boxing match. Khadem and her trainer, Mahyar Monshipour, had been expected to return to Tehran after the win, but she canceled her return to Iran after an arrest warrant was issued due to breaching dress rules for women in Iran.
