Elmer Austin
Elmer M. Austin Jr. (December 11, 1949 – December 28, 2023) was an American basketball player. He played college basketball for the North Carolina A&T Aggies and was the inaugural Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 1972. Early life Austin was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, to parents Elmer and Dorothy Austin. He attended James B. Dudley High School and initially pursued football until he was coerced by others into playing basketball. Austin averaged over 20 points per game during his prep career and received interest from 10 colleges. He was recruited by Cal Irvin of the North Carolina A&T Aggies and accepted a scholarship to attend North Carolina A&T State University. Austin graduated from Dudley in 1968. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Year
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an annual award given to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1971–72 season. There has never been a tie for co-player of the year in the award's history, nor has there been a national player of the year. Two players have been named the MEAC Player of the Year three times: Marvin Webster of Morgan State Bears men's basketball, Morgan State (1973–75) and Joe Binion of North Carolina A&T Aggies men's basketball, North Carolina A&T (1982–84). The school with the most all-time honorees is North Carolina A&T, now a member of the Big South Conference, which has had nine winners, but its last award before its 2021 departure was in 1988. The North Carolina A&T Aggies men's basketball team represents North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, United States. The team currently competes in the Colonial Athletic Association, having formerly played in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference from 1970 to 2021. They are currently led by head coach Monté Ross. Akron Zips Men's Basketball
The Akron Zips men's basketball team represents the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, Akron, Ohio. The team currently competes in the Mid-American Conference East division. The Zips are currently coached by John Groce. Prior to becoming members of the MAC in 1992, the Zips were members of the Ohio Valley Conference and the Summit League, Mid-Continent Conference.
