Elma Soiron (8 June 1918 in Acomb, Yorkshire – May 2016 in London) was an English actress, who was best known for playing Madame Dubois in " The Path of Duty", the fourth episode of the first series of the British television series, ''Upstairs, Downstairs'' (31 October 1971), and Madame Huguot in "A Patriotic Offering", the first episode of the fourth series, first broadcast on 14 September 1974 on ITV. Acomb, North Yorkshire
Acomb , is a village and suburb within the City of York Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority area, to the western side of York, England. It covers the site of the original village of the same name, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It is bordered by the suburbs of Holgate, to the east, Clifton, York, Clifton, to the north and Woodthorpe, North Yorkshire, Woodthorpe to the south. The boundary to the west abuts the fields close to the A1237 road, A1237, York Outer Ring Road. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Acomb was incorporated into the City of York in 1934. ''Upstairs, Downstairs'' is a British television drama series created by Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins, and developed by Alfred Shaughnessy for London Weekend Television. The series consists of 68 hour-long episodes that aired in the United Kingdom on ITV from 1971 to 1975, in Ireland on RTÉ from 1972 to 1976 and in the United States as part of ''Masterpiece Theatre'' on PBS from 1974 to 1977. It was eventually broadcast in over 70 countries to an audience of over one billion viewers. ''Upstairs, Downstairs'' is a British television drama series produced by London Weekend Television (LWT) for ITV. It ran for 68 episodes divided into five series on ITV from 1971 to 1975. ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ''Crossroads'' (later known as ''Crossroads Motel'' and ''Crossroads King's Oak'') is a British television soap opera that ran on ITV over two periods – the original 1964 to 1988 run, followed by a short revival from 2001 to 2003. ''The Tripods'' is a television adaptation of John Christopher's ''The Tripods'' series of novels. It was jointly produced by the BBC in the United Kingdom and the Seven Network in Australia. The music soundtrack was written by Ken Freeman. Series one of ''The Tripods'', broadcast in 1984, had 13 half-hour episodes written by Alick Rowe, the author of many radio plays, and covers the first book, ''The White Mountains''; the 12-episode second series (1985) written by Christopher Penfold covers ''The City of Gold and Lead''.
