Elm Thicket, Dallas
Elm Thicket (also known as Elm Thicket/Northpark) is a primarily residential neighborhood in North Dallas, Texas near Love Field airport and the neighborhoods of Love Field, Bluffview, Greenway Parks, University Park and Highland Park. For most of its history the historical Elm Thicket/North Park area has been predominantly an African American community. Geography Often referred to by residents as North Park, Elm Thicket/North Park refers to the current-day area bounded by Lover's Lane to the north, Lemmon Avenue to the west, Mockingbird Lane to the south, and Inwood Road to the east. Historical Elm Thicket referred to the lower Southwest portion of the neighborhood. This area was bounded by Mockingbird Lane to the South, Cedar Springs Road to the West, Roper Street to the East and University Boulevard to the North, and it was one of the few minority-majority areas of North Dallas. The Dallas Police Department, established in 1881, is the principal law enforcement agency serving the city of Dallas, Texas. Eddie Bernice Johnson
Eddie Bernice Johnson (December 3, 1934 – December 31, 2023) was an American politician who represented Texas's in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2023. Johnson was a member of the Democratic Party. Johnson was elected to the House in 1992, becoming the first registered nurse in Congress. At the swearing-in of the 116th United States Congress, she became dean of Texas's congressional delegation. Upon Representative Don Young's death in March 2022, Johnson became the oldest member of the House of Representatives. She retired at the end of the 117th Congress. Royce Barry West (born September 26, 1952) is an American politician who serves as a member of the Texas Senate, representing the Dallas-based Texas Senate, District 23, 23rd District.
