Elliott Bay Book Company is an independent bookstore located at 1521 10th Avenue in the Capitol Hill, Seattle, Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Seattle, Washington, United States. The ''Seattle Times'' described the store as the "region's premier independent bookstore" and the Associated Press referred to the bookstore as "a literary landmark." The ''New York Times'' claimed in 1999 that "most Seattleites would agree" that Elliott Bay Book Company was the "bookish heart" of the city. The bookstore opened in 1973 in the Pioneer Square, Seattle, Pioneer Square neighborhood and moved to Capitol Hill in 2010. Description The bookstore is housed in a 20,000-square-foot building. Exposed timber trusses, industrial sash windows, and 19-foot-tall ceilings contribute to Elliott Bay's distinctive environment. The store regularly carries around 150,000 titles. The Globe Building, Beebe Building and the Hotel Cecil are a trio of historic office/hotel buildings located in Downtown Seattle, Washington, United States. The buildings occupy the entire west side of the 1000 block of 1st Avenue between Madison and Spring streets. The three buildings were constructed from late 1900 to 1901 for Syracuse-based investors Clifford Beebe and William Nottingham by the Clise Investment Company, headed by businessman James Clise (1855–1938), as a result of the Alaska Gold Rush which fueled the construction of many such buildings in downtown Seattle. Town Center at Lake Forest Park (formerly Lake Forest Park Towne Centre) is a shopping center that also serves as the community hub for the city of Lake Forest Park, Washington.
