Eliyahu Hasid
Rabbi Eliyahu Hasid ( he, אליהו חסיד; born 12 November 1976) is an Israeli politician. He briefly served as a member of the Knesset for the United Torah Judaism alliance in 2020. Biography Hasid was placed ninth on the United Torah Judaism list for the April 2019 elections, but UTJ won only eight seats. He was placed ninth again for the September 2019 elections, in which UTJ were reduced to seven seats. Although he missed out again in the March 2020 elections, in which he retained ninth place and UTJ again won seven seats, he entered the Knesset on 24 June 2020 as a replacement for Yaakov Litzman, who had resigned his seat under the Norwegian Law after being appointed to the cabinet. Bnei Brak
Bnei Brak or Bene Beraq ( he, בְּנֵי בְּרַק ) is a city located on the central Mediterranean coastal plain in Israel, just east of Tel Aviv. A center of Haredi Judaism, Bnei Brak covers an area of 709 hectares (1752 acres, or 2.74 square miles), and had a population of in . It is one of the poorest and most densely populated cities in Israel, and the 5th-most densely populated city in the world. History Bnei Brak takes its name from the ancient Biblical city of Beneberak, mentioned in the Tanakh (Joshua 19:45) in a long list of towns within the allotment of the tribe of Dan. Bnei Brak was founded as an agricultural village by eight Polish Hasidic families who had come to Palestine as part of the Fourth Aliyah. Yitzchok Gerstenkorn led them. Eliyahu Baruchi ( he, אֵלִיָּהוּ בָּרוּכִי, born 22 January 1976) is an Israeli Haredi rabbi and politician currently serving as a member of the Knesset for the United Torah Judaism alliance. He previously held the position in three spells during 2020 and 2021. Biography Baruchi was born in Ashdod and studied at the Torah yeshiva in Jerusalem. After marrying, he studied at Kollel Abraham in Herzliya and Petah Tikva. In 2008 he was appointed chair of the Petah Tikva branch of Degel HaTorah. He was elected onto Petah Tikva city council and became deputy mayor. He was placed tenth on the United Torah Judaism list for the April 2019 election, but UTJ won only eight seats. The Norwegian Law ( he, החוק הנורווגי, ''HaḤok HaNorvegi''), initially Mini-Norwegian Law ( he, החוק הנורווגי הקטן) for its first version, is a name given to an amendment to the Basic Law: The Knesset, one of the Basic Laws of Israel. It affects the appointment of ministers and members of the Knesset. The amendment allows ministers or deputy ministers to resign from the Knesset but remain a minister, with their Knesset seat taken by the next person on the party's list. If the person who resigned leaves the cabinet, they are able to return to the Knesset in place of their replacement. The law initially limited each party to one resignation and replacement. The legislation became commonly known as the 'Norwegian Law' due to a similar system being in place in Norway. The amendment was approved by the Knesset by a vote of 64–51 on 30 July 2015. Yaakov Litzman
Yaakov Noach Litzman ( he, יַעֲקֹב נָח לִיצְמָן , born 2 September 1948) is an Israeli politician and former government minister. A follower of the Ger Hasidic dynasty, he heads Agudat Yisrael, part of the United Torah Judaism alliance, in the Knesset. He previously served as Minister of Health and Minister of Housing and Construction. Litzman resigned from the Knesset in June 2022, as part of a plea agreement in which he admitted criminally obstructing the extradition of alleged paedophile Malka Leifer. Biography Litzman was born on 2 September 1948 to Polish survivors of the Holocaust, in a displaced persons camp in Germany. When he was two years old, the family immigrated to the East New York section of Brooklyn, and then to the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, where he grew up.
