This article shows a list of characters from ''The Transformers'' television series that aired during the debut of the American and Japanese Transformers media franchise from 1984 to 1991. Autobots The Autobots (also known as Cybertrons in Japan) are the heroes in the '' Transformers toyline'' and related spin-off comics and cartoons. Their main leader is Optimus Prime, but other "Primes" have also commanded the Autobots such as Rodimus Prime. They are constantly at war with the evil Decepticons. In the U.S. cartoon line, the Autobots were the descendants of a line of robots created as consumer goods by the Quintessons; the Decepticons, are descended instead from robots designed as military hardware. Bumblebee (Transformers)
Bumblebee is a fictional robot character appearing in the many continuities in the ''Transformers'' franchise. The character is a member of the Autobots, a group of sentient, self-configuring, modular extraterrestrial robotic lifeforms. In the original line of toys and in the animated series, Bumblebee is a small yellow Volkswagen Beetle. In the live action movies, he has appeared as vehicles inspired by the Chevrolet American muscle cars – with the live-action film versions being a yellow Camaro with black racing stripes. The original vehicle-mode design was based on a classic European Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. The character is named after the bumblebee, a black-and-yellow striped insect which inspired his paint scheme. Optimus Prime
Optimus Prime, also known in Japan as is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the ''Transformers'' franchise. Generally depicted as a brave and noble leader, Optimus Prime is the supreme commander of the Autobots in their fight against the Decepticons. The ''Transformers'' characters were developed for the American market after Hasbro representatives visited the 1983 Tokyo Toy Show. Some designs were modified and the coloring was changed; notably, Optimus Prime (released in 1982 as Diaclone No. 17 - Battle Convoy and in 1984 as Powered Convoy) was colored red, chrome, and dark blue. While the Diaclone version was intended to be a piloted mecha, the Transformers version was a sentient robot. The popularity of the ''Transformers'' toys resulted in comics, movies, and a TV series. Decepticon
The Decepticons are a fictional faction of sentient robots in the ''Transformers'' multimedia franchise. Serving as the main antagonists in the franchise, their goals include conquering their fictional homeworld planet Cybertron, defeating the Autobots, and achieving universal domination. Description They are depicted as a faction of sentient robotic lifeforms led by Megatron, identified by a purple face-like insignia and they have red eyes (while the Autobots have blue eyes). Dan Gilvezan
Daniel John Gilvezan (born October 26, 1950) is an American actor, known for playing Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the 1981 animated series '' Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends'' and Bumblebee in the original 1984-1987 '' The Transformers'' series. Early life and career Gilvezan was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Webster University with a B.A. in drama and later earned a master's degree from The Catholic University of America. Soon afterwards he began touring with the National Players company in Washington D.C. From the mid-to-late 1970s, he appeared in plays in summer stock, dinner theater, and children's theater. In 1973 Gilvezan performed in Wayside Theatre's touring group along with Kathy Bates. In 1980, while doing an on-camera commercial he met an agent from The Tisherman agency and signed on with them. Cliffjumper
Cliffjumper is the name of several fictional characters from the Transformers franchise. His name is usually associated with an Autobot whose toys are often red repaints or remold of Bumblebee (Transformers), Bumblebee toys. Transformers: Generation 1 Cliffjumper's bio indicates that he compensates for his small size by being the first to rush into any dangerous situation, desiring only to beat up "Decepti-creeps." Although this trait has his fellow Autobots' respect, occasionally it ensnares him into situations he cannot handle. His motto is "Let me at 'em!"
