Elina Salo
Aino Elina Salo (born 9 March 1936 in Sipoo, Finland) is a Finnish film, theatre and television actress who has also done work in radio as a voice actor in children’s programming. In her career that began in 1956, Salo has appeared in over 50 films and television shows and is known for her appearances in several Aki Kaurismäki’s films. She was also the voice of Little My in the Finnish dub of '' Moomin''. Salo has received three Jussi Awards for her work. In 2010, she received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (''Commandeur''). The film was selected as the Swedish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 53rd Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. The film is based on the 1948 play ''Mr Puntila and His Man Matti'' by Bertolt Brecht which in turn is based on the 1940 Finnish play ''The Sawdust Princess'' by Hella Wuolijoki. ''Le Havre'' () is a 2011 comedy-drama film produced, written, and directed by Aki Kaurismäki and starring André Wilms, Kati Outinen, Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Blondin Miguel. It tells the story of a shoeshiner who tries to save an immigrant child in the French port city Le Havre. The film was produced by Kaurismäki's Finnish company Sputnik with international co-producers in France and Germany. It is Kaurismäki's second French-language film, after '' La Vie de Bohème'' from 1992. The film premiered in competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the FIPRESCI Prize. ''The Man Without a Past'' () is a 2002 Finnish comedy-drama film produced, written, and directed by Aki Kaurismäki. ''Juha'' is a 1999 Finnish film written, directed, produced and edited by Aki Kaurismäki. The film is loosely based on a famous 1911 novel ''Juha (novel), Juha'' by the Finnish author Juhani Aho marking this as the fourth time the novel was adapted for the screen. The original story takes place in the 18th century but Kaurismäki's remake is set sometime in the latter half of the 20th century. It tells the story of a love triangle where a simple peasant woman leaves her husband after falling in love with a modern city slicker. ''Juha'' is a silent film shot in black-and-white with dialogue in the form of intertitles.
