Elias Root
Elias Root (November 30, 1806 – September 10, 1880) was an American businessman and politician from New York (state), New York. Life He was born on November 30, 1806, in Fort Ann, New York, Fort Ann, Washington County, New York. He attended the Fort Ann village school and the Rutland County, Vermont, Rutland County grammar school. Then he enrolled at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, West Point, but left after one year due to ill health. He taught school for two years in Newburgh (city), New York, Newburgh, and then became a merchant there. On January 14, 1830, he married Lydia Noyes (died 1871), and they had three children. Later he moved to Mohawk, Herkimer County, New York, Mohawk, and there engaged in the wholesale and forwarding business. He was Supervisor of the German Flatts, New York, Town of German Flatts. In the Hebrew Bible, Abner ( he, אַבְנֵר ) was the cousin of King Saul and the commander-in-chief of his army. His name also appears as "Abiner son of Ner", where the longer form Abiner means "my father is Ner". Biblical narrative Abner is initially mentioned incidentally in Saul's history, first appearing as the son of Ner, Saul's uncle, and the commander of Saul's army. He then comes to the story again as the commander who introduced David to Saul following David's killing of Goliath. He is not mentioned in the account of the disastrous battle of Gilboa when Saul's power was crushed.
