''Eli Sjursdotter'' is a 1938 Norwegian drama film directed by Arne Bornebusch and Leif Sinding, starring Sonja Wigert, Ingjald Haaland and Sten Lindgren. The film is based on Johan Falkberget's 1913 novel of the same name. In 1719, during the Great Northern War, a Swedish army is making its way home through Trøndelag Trøndelag (; or is a county and coextensive with the Trøndelag region (also known as ''Midt-Norge'' or ''Midt-Noreg,'' "Mid-Norway") in the central part of Norway. Arne Folke Harald Bornebusch (December 10, 1905 – October 13, 1973) was a Swedish film director and screenwriter. Personal life Bornebusch was born in Hjortsberga, Sweden. He married Annika Backelin, with whom he had a son, Lars Peder Gustaf Rudolf. Bornebusch died in Stockholm in 1973. Trøndelag (; or is a county and coextensive with the Trøndelag region (also known as ''Midt-Norge'' or ''Midt-Noreg,'' "Mid-Norway") in the central part of Norway. Leif Sinding (19 November 1895 – 13 May 1985) was a Norwegian film director and journalist. He worked for the newspapers ''Verdens Gang (1868–1923), Verdens Gang'', ''Aftenposten'', and ''Morgenbladet''. Among his silent films are ''Himmeluret'' from 1925, based on Gabriel Scott's comedy, and ''Fjeldeventyret'' from 1926. He directed the film ''Bra mennesker'' (1937), based on a play by Oskar Braaten, and the films ''De vergeløse'' (1939) and ''Tante Pose (film), Tante Pose'' (1940), both based on novels by Gabriel Scott.
