Elfie Caroline Huntington
Elfie Caroline Huntington (December 27, 1868 – July 24, 1949) was an American photographer from Springville, Utah. She was deaf as a result of childhood scarlet fever, and became involved in photography at age 24 as an apprentice to George Edward Anderson. She started a successful photography studio in Springville with fellow apprentice Joseph Daniel Bagley; they also traveled around Utah taking photographs. Huntington was known for taking pictures of everyday occurrences as well as dark, humorous photos. Early life Elfie Caroline Huntington was born in 1868 in Springville, Utah Territory to William Clark Huntington and Emma Elizabeth Boyer. When she was four years old, she lost her hearing due to complications from scarlet fever. Springville is a city in Utah County, Utah that is part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. The population was 35,268 in 2020, according to the United States Census. Joseph Daniel Bagley
Joseph Daniel Bagley (born Joseph Daniel Flannigan; December 17, 1874 – June 16, 1936) was an American beekeeper, businessman, and photographer. He operated an apiary and a photography studio in Springville, Utah. Bagley traveled around Utah, taking photos and setting up galleries. Early life Bagley was born on December 17, 1874, to Thomas Emmett Flannigan and Margaret Melissa Bagley in Toquerville, Utah. At a young age, Bagley began to live with his maternal grandparents and took their last name. His grandfather was a beekeeper and taught Bagley the trade. Career Bagley operated the Western Bee and Honey Company, which was one of the largest apiaries in the area at the time. Scarlet Fever
Scarlet fever, also known as Scarlatina, is an infectious disease caused by ''Streptococcus pyogenes'' a Group A streptococcus (GAS). The infection is a type of Group A streptococcal infection (Group A strep). It most commonly affects children between five and 15 years of age. The signs and symptoms include a sore throat, fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes, and a characteristic rash. The face is flushed and the rash is red and blanching. It typically feels like sandpaper and the tongue may be red and bumpy. The rash occurs as a result of capillary damage by exotoxins produced by ''S.pyogenes''. On darker pigmented skin the rash may be hard to discern. Scarlet fever affects a small number of people who have strep throat or streptococcal skin infections. George Edward Anderson
George Edward Anderson (October 28, 1860 – May 9, 1928) was an early American photographer known for his portraiture and documentary photographs of early historical sites of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and Utah settlements. Biography George Edward Anderson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and apprenticed as a teenager under photographer Charles Roscoe Savage. At Savage's Art Bazar Studio, Anderson became friends with fellow apprentices John Hafen and John F. Bennett. Hafen later become an accomplished artist and Bennett was instrumental in preserving Anderson's glass plate negatives. At seventeen, Anderson established his photography studio in Salt Lake City with his brothers, Stanley and Adam.
