Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir
Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir (born 1985) is an Icelandic violinist. Elfa Rún came to international prominence through her victory at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2006, where she won the Grand Prize, the Audience Prize and a special prize awarded to the youngest finalist. Elfa Rún has also won several awards at the Icelandic Music Awards, including the Performer of the Year award in 2012 and the Album of the Year award in 2015 for her recording of the works of Georg Philipp Telemann. In 2015, Elfa Rún was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize Elfa Rún's work in historically informed performance of Baroque music has been well received, and she is an active member of Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition
The International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition () is a music competition in Leipzig, Germany, held by the Bach-Archiv Leipzig. It was founded in 1950 and was held every four years from 1964 to 1996 with five subjects and is now held every two years with three changing subjects violin / baroque violin, piano, harpsichord or in the fields of voice, cello / baroque violoncello and organ. From 1965 the competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva. Georg Philipp Telemann
Georg Philipp Telemann (; – 25 June 1767) was a German Baroque composer and multi-instrumentalist. He is one of the most prolific composers in history, at least in terms of surviving works. Telemann was considered by his contemporaries to be one of the leading German composers of the time, and he was compared favourably both to his friend Johann Sebastian Bach, who made Telemann the godfather and namesake of his son Carl Philipp Emanuel, and to George Frideric Handel, whom Telemann also knew personally. Almost completely self-taught in music, he became a composer against his family's wishes. After studying in Magdeburg, Zellerfeld, and Hildesheim, Telemann entered the University of Leipzig to study law, but eventually settled on a career in music. He held important positions in Leipzig, Sorau, Eisenach, and Frankfurt before settling in Hamburg in 1721, where he became musical director of that city's five main churches. Nordic Council Music Prize
The Nordic Council Music Prize is awarded annually by NOMUS, the Nordic Music Committee. Every two years it is awarded for a work by a living composer. In the intervening years it is awarded to a performing musician or ensemble.
