The 11th Guards Army () was a field army of the Red Army, the Soviet Ground Forces, and the Russian Ground Forces, active from 1943 to 1997. 16th Army (Soviet Union)
The 16th Army was a Soviet field army active from 1940 to 1945. First Formation, 16th Army The 16th Army Headquarters was formed in July 1940 in the Transbaikal Military District to command Soviet forces deployed in the Dauriya area. On 25 May 1941, four weeks before the commencement of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, Operation Barbarossa, the army received orders to deploy (with six Trans-Baikalian divisions) to Ukraine to be subordinated to the Kiev Special Military District. 84th Guards Rifle Division
The 84th Guards Rifle Division was reformed as an elite infantry division of the Red Army in April 1943, based on the 2nd formation of the 110th Rifle Division (Soviet Union), 110th Rifle Division, and served in that role until after the end of the Great Patriotic War. Throughout its combat path it was considered a "sister" to the 83rd Guards Rifle Division. It was redesignated after the relatively minor battles along the front held by the 16th Army (Soviet Union), 16th Army north of the Oryol salient during most of 1942 and into early 1943. Under a ''STAVKA'' directive of April 16 that Army was officially redesignated as the 11th Guards Army on May 1, 1943. 5th Guards Rifle Division
The 5th Guards Rifle Division was an infantry division of the Red Army in World War II. It fought at Kaluga, Orel, Moscow, Bryansk, Gorodok, and in Belorussia, East Prussia, and Kurland. World War II The 107th Rifle Division was reorganized into a Guards unit designated the 5th Guards Rifle Division on 26 September 1941, in recognition of its performance during the Yelnya offensive. 169th Rifle Division (Soviet Union)
The 169th Rifle Division began forming as an infantry division of the Red Army in the Ukraine Military District in August 1939, based on the ''shtat'' (table of organization and equipment) of the following month. It nominally saw service in the occupation force in western Ukraine in September, but was not in any state to see combat. It played a more active role in the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia and Bukovina, Northern Bukovina in June/July 1940. 16th Guards Rifle Division
The 16th Guards Rifle Division was reformed as an elite infantry division of the Red Army in February 1942, based on the 1st formation of the 249th Rifle Division (Soviet Union), 249th Rifle Division, and served in that role until well after the end of the Great Patriotic War. It was in Kalinin Front when it was redesignated and remained in the northern half of the front throughout the war. 26th Guards Rifle Division
The 26th Guards Rifle Division was reformed as an elite infantry division of the Red Army in April, 1942, based on the 1st formation of the 93rd Rifle Division, and served in that role until after the end of the Great Patriotic War. It would soon after provide the headquarters cadre for the 8th Guards Rifle Corps. It was soon assigned, with its Corps, to 20th Army of Western Front and saw extensive fighting, while also suffering extensive casualties, in two campaigns against the German 9th Army in the Rzhev salient through the rest of 1942. The division, again with 8th Guards Corps, joined the 11th Guards Army when it was formed in April, 1943 and, apart from a brief reassignment in early 1944, remained under those commands for the duration of the war. The 11th Guards Rifle Division was a rifle division of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War. It was disbanded in 1946. History 18th Moscow Militia Division Originally formed on 2 July 1941 in the Leningrad region of Moscow. The subordinate regiments were numbered on 20 July. As of 16 July the division had 6934 men assigned but no weapons or equipment had been assigned.
