Eleonora Shifrin
Eleonora Shifrin (; born 1948) is chairwoman of the Yamin Yisrael party, and is also news editor for SedmoyKanal.com, the Russian-language website for Arutz Sheva. Shifrin was born in Kiev (at the time a city in the Soviet Union, now the capital of Ukraine). She is a long time activist who fought to foster Jewish immigration from the Soviet Union to Israel and currently stands as the Russian-speaking representative of Jonathan Pollard. For the 2003 Knesset elections Yamin Yisrael allied itself to Herut – The National Movement. Shifrin won fifth place on the alliance's Knesset list, but it failed to cross the electoral threshold. Yamin Yisrael
Yamin Yisrael () was a minor right-wing political party in Israel. Background The party was founded on 24 July 1995 when Shaul Gutman broke away from Moledet. It ran in the 1996 elections, but failed to cross the electoral threshold of 1.5% and did not win a seat. In the 2003 elections the party ran a joint list with Herut – The National Movement. Although together the parties won 36,202 votes (1.1%), they were 8,000 short of the threshold. For the 2006 elections the party ran alongside Baruch Marzel's Jewish National Front, winning 28,824 votes (0.79%) and again failing to cross the threshold. Herut – The National Movement (, ''Herut – HaTnu'a HaLeumit''), commonly known as just Herut (), was a minor right-wing political party in Israel. Though it saw itself as the ideological successor to the historical Herut party (which merged into Likud) it was a new and separate party. It participated in the 1999, 2003 and 2006 elections. History The party was formed on 23 February 1999 when Benny Begin, Michael Kleiner and David Re'em broke away from Likud during the fourteenth Knesset. Legislative elections were held in Israel on 28 January 2003. The result was a resounding victory for Ariel Sharon's Likud. The previous separate election for Prime Minister was scrapped, and the post was returned to the leader of the party successfully forming the working coalition government. Jonathan Pollard
Jonathan Jay Pollard (born August 7, 1954) is an American former intelligence analyst who was jailed for spying for Israel. In 1984, Pollard sold numerous state secrets, including the National Security Agency's ten-volume manual on how the U.S. gathers its signal intelligence, and disclosed the names of thousands of people who had cooperated with U.S. intelligence agencies. He was apprehended in 1985, and in subsequent proceedings agreed to a plea deal, pleaded guilty to spying for and providing top-secret classified information to Israel.
