Elena Miller
Elena Miller, originally known as Yelena Borisovna Olshanskaya, is a Russian who, as alleged by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), lived in Canada as a spy, using the name of a dead child as a cover. Olshanskaya later lost the right to immigrate back to Canada to live with her second husband, Canadian Peter Miller. Career In the early 1990s, Yelena Olshanskaya came to live in Canada under the alias Laurie Catherine Mary Lambert (nee Brodie). Her husband Dmitriy used the alias Ian Mackenzie Lambert. On 27 May 1996, CBC television correspondent Neil MacDonald reported the arrest of Ian and Laurie Lambert, a married couple living in a Toronto apartment, as Russian spies. Maria Valerievna Butina (; born 10 November 1988) is a Russian politician, political activist, journalist, and former entrepreneur who was convicted in 2018 of allegedly acting as an unregistered foreign agent of Russia within the United States. Butina worked as an assistant for Aleksandr Torshin, a former member of the Federation Council, member of Vladimir Putin's United Russia party, and deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia. A sleeper agent is a spy or operative who is placed in a target country or organization, not to undertake an immediate mission, but instead to act as a potential asset on short notice if activated in the future. Even if not activated, the "sleeper agent" is still an asset and can still play an active role in sabotage, sedition, espionage, or possibly treason(if enlisted to act against their own country), by virtue of agreeing to act if activated. Jack Philip Barsky (born Albrecht Dittrich, 18 May 1949) is a German-American author, IT specialist and former operative of the KGB who spied on the United States from 1978 to 1988. The Illegals Program (so named by the United States Department of Justice) was a network of Russian sleeper agents under unofficial cover. An investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) culminated in the arrest of ten agents on June 27, 2010, and a prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States on July 9, 2010. The arrested spies were Russian nationals who had been planted in the US by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (known by its Russian abbreviation, ''SVR''), most of them using false identities.
