Elen Asatryan
Elen Asatryan (; born 1983) is an Armenian Americans, Armenian-American politician who is a Councilmember and the immediate past mayor of Glendale, California. Early life and education Asatryan, with her family, moved from Armenia to Glendale at the age of 10, where she attended Columbus Elementary School, Toll Middle School, and Herbert Hoover High School (Glendale), Herbert Hoover High School. She is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied political science, with concentrations in American politics and international relations. At the age of 15, Asatryan began her political career as a volunteer for Rafi Manoukian’s 1999 Glendale City Council campaign. Rafi Manoukian
Rafi Manoukian (born 1961) is a businessman and elected council member for several terms to Glendale City Council and has served at times as mayor of the city. Biography Manoukian immigrated to the United States in 1975 from Beirut, Lebanon with his parents and three brothers. He resided in Los Angeles. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force in 1978 at the age 17 where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and where he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for work above and beyond the call of duty. He was honorably discharged in 1982. During his four years in the military, Manoukian received an Associate in Arts Degree from Miami Dade Community College. Genocide is violence that targets individuals because of their membership of a group and aims at the destruction of a people. The Armenian genocide was the systematic destruction of the Armenians, Armenian people and identity in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. "Get out the vote" or "getting out the vote" (GOTV) describes efforts aimed at increasing the voter turnout in elections. In countries that do not have or enforce compulsory voting, voter turnout can be low, sometimes even below a third of the eligible voter pool. GOTV efforts typically attempt to register voters, then get them to vote, by absentee ballot, early voting or election day voting. GOTV is generally not required for elections when there are effective compulsory voting systems in place, other than perhaps to register first time voters. There are two types of GOTV efforts.
