Elektron (company)
Elektron is a Swedish developer and manufacturer of musical instruments founded in 1998, as well as having its headquarters, R&D and production in Gothenburg, Sweden. They produce mainly electronic musical instruments, but have also made effects units and software. Since 2012, there have been branch offices in Los Angeles and in Tokyo. Musicians who use Elektron instruments include Panda Bear, Timbaland, The Knife, Sophie Xeon, Depeche Mode, 8 Bit Weapon, and Autechre. Early years Elektron started working on its first electronic instrument in 1997. At the time, it was a school project, a mandatory course part of the Computer Science program at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. The three founders were Daniel Hansson, Anders Gärder and Mikael Räim. The International Space Station (ISS) Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) is a life support system that provides or controls atmospheric pressure, fire detection and suppression, oxygen levels, proper ventilation, waste management and water supply. It was jointly designed and tested by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, UTC Aerospace Systems, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Honeywell. The system has three primary functions: Drinking water, Water Recovery, Air purifier, Air Revitalization, and Chemical oxygen generator, Oxygen Generation, the purpose of which is to ensure safe and comfortable environments for personnel aboard the ISS. The system also serves as a potential proof of concept for more advanced systems building off of the ECLSS for use in deep space missions. Elektron (, ), in American sources sometimes called Electron, was the first Soviet multiple satellite program, comprising two identical pairs of particle physics satellites launched by the Soviet Union in 1964. The four spacecraft simultaneously monitored the lower and upper Van Allen radiation belts and returned a considerable volume of data regarding radiation in space and atmospheric conditions to an altitude of more than above the Earth. Two of the four launched satellites are still in orbit as of 2023, the other two having reentered. It is a fundamental particle that comprises the ordinary matter that makes up the universe, along with up quark, up and down quark, down quarks.
