Electro Assassin
Electro Assassin was the music project of London-based composer Kevin Gould, known for his work with Johnson Engineering Co. Ian Taylor provided vocals to the project between 1990 and 1994. The group released three albums: ''Jamming the Voice of the Universe'' (1992), '' Bioculture'' (1993) and ''The Divine Invasion'' (1995). History Electro Assassin was founded out of London in 1990 by Kevin Gould as an outlet for his solo compositions. Gould had previously performed in Johnson Engineering Co. Electro Assassin released ''Jamming the Voice of the Universe'' in 1992 by Hyperium Records and Concrete Productions. The second album was released in 1993 by Hyperium and titled '' Bioculture'' and represented vocalist Ian Taylor's final release with the band. The band's third album, titled ''The Divine Invasion'', was released in 1995 by Synthetic Symphony and Cyber-Tec Records. Reception Randolph Heard of '' Option'' gave a ''Funky Alternatives Seven'' and claimed "manly growling and bleating over lead-footed beats and pop-culture sampling depict a cartoonish cyberpunk world full of diseased machines, rabid Christians, terminal drug abuse and, of course, cop killing." He went on to say "the more techno-oriented cuts, the hyper, plastic rhythms tend to take the sting out of the industrial sound, which turns the crashing guitars, distorted vocals and aura of destruction into mere flavoring for the techno beat." Fifth Colvmn Records was a record label based in Washington, DC. The label was founded in 1990 by Zalman Fishman, owner of the nightclub FIFTH COLVMN, located in Washington D.C. The label's first release was Chemlab's debut EP Ten Ton Pressure. Jared Hendrickson of Chemlab also became the general manager for the label. Chemlab later played several dates with Nine Inch Nails, eventually attracting a distribution deal for their next release, Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar, with Metal Blade Records. The band Thud was the next artist to join the label. Heavy, loud and unrelenting, Thud became very popular amongst Metal fans and critics alike luring Eli Janney from Girls Against Boys to contribute to their debut record Life & Death and earning co-headling performances with Stone Temple Pilots.
