Elden Racing Cars
Elden Racing Cars was a British motor sport company involved in designing (under the brand of Design Formula), building and racing cars. Most frequently associated with Formula Ford in the 1970s, the marque also produced Formula Atlantic, Formula 3, Formula 4, U.S. F2000 National Championship, Formula Ford 2000 and Formula Renault vehicles (among others). In total Elden produced more than 38 individual designs from birth to the present day. Formula Ford, also known as F1600 and Formula F, is an entry-level class of single-seater, open-wheel formula racing. The various championships held across the world have historically been an important step for many prospective Formula One drivers. Formula Ford has traditionally been regarded as the first major stepping stone into formula racing after karting. Formula F100
The Formula F100 was a racing class in 1970 and 1971. The class was open to lightweight sports cars powered by a 1300cc engine (usually a Ford Kent engine or 1300cc BMC engine). History The Formula F100 was launched by Geoff Clarke and the Motor Racing Stables racing school. Clarke also launched Formula Ford and thought that Formula F100 could be the sports car racing equivalent. The British press gave the F100 a far from warm welcome, fearing that the class would rival the popular Clubmans. The first season was dominated by Ray Allen driving a Royale RP4. The car was first powered by a Ford Kent engine. But when Nick Cole became the faster driver in a BMC powered Nerus Silhouette, Allen quickly changed engines. Sports 2000
Sports 2000 is a restricted-rules class of two-seat, mid-engined, open-cockpit, full-bodied sports-prototype racecar used largely in amateur road racing. Sometimes known as S2000 or S2, the class was developed by John Webb, then of the Brands Hatch racing circuit in England, as an affordable form of sports car racing, essentially a sports car version of Formula Ford 2000. The key attributes of the class were a body design reminiscent of two-liter Group 6 sports racing cars like the Chevron B21 and Lola T-212 but with an ultra-reliable and inexpensive drivetrain comprising a two-liter "Pinto" overhead camshaft engine with very limited allowed modifications and the well-proven, VW-based Hewland Mk 9 transaxle. Formula C (SCCA)
Formula C was an open wheeled SCCA racing class originating in the mid-1960s, derived from the failed Formula Junior class. Formula C cars were very similar to Formula Juniors; Formula B was a similar class with uprated 1600 cc engines. Formula C cars were limited to 1100 cc engines. In the SCCA today, Formula Continental is the direct descendant of Formula C. Formula Super Vee
Formula Super Vee was an open-wheel racing series that took place in Europe and the United States from 1970 to 1990. The formula was created as an extension of Formula Vee, a racing class that was introduced in 1959. Formula Super Vee in Europe was similar to F3 or Formula Renault today, a stepping stone to F1. In the United States, Formula Super Vee, often referred to as Super Vee, was a natural progression to Indy Car and Can-Am. Formula Ford 1600
Formula Ford 1600 is a group of auto racing championships for 1600cc Ford Kent engine, Ford Kent powered Formula Ford racing cars. The UK national Formula Ford category disbanded these cars when it adopted the 1800cc Ford Zetec engine, Zetec engine in 1993. However, several regional club championships have continued to run. Championships UK and Ireland Castle Combe is a racing club that includes a Formula 1600 championship. The championship exclusively races at the Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire. It is the oldest FF1600 championship in the UK, having started in 1969. In addition to Formula 1600, Castle Combe also has Hot Hatch, GT, and Saloon Car championships. Formula Atlantic is a specification of open-wheel racing car developed in the 1970s. It was used in professional racing through the IMSA Atlantic Championship until 2009 and is currently primarily used in amateur racing through Sports Car Club of America Formula Atlantic.
