The Lima Film Festival () is a film festival held annually by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). Its original name was ''Festival Elcine''. The official name has been ''Festival of Lima, Encuentro Latinoamericano de Cine'' since 2007. The festival The first festival was first held in 1997 under the name "Elcine Festival" at the PUCP Cultural Center in San Isidro District Lima, which continues to host the main festival. Conceived as a "Latin American Meeting of Cinema" the growth of the festival has expanded to the Centro Cultural de la PUCP, brought in Cineplanet, and various concert halls and cultural centers in Lima. The festival is held annually in the first half of August. Being the main film event in Peru and one of the most important events in Lima's cultural calendar it is a noted festival for regional cinema in Latin America. Pontifical Catholic University Of Peru
Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (, PUCP) is a private university in Lima, Peru. It was founded in 1917 with the support and approval of the Catholic church, being the oldest private institution of higher learning in the country. The Peruvian historian and politician José de la Riva-Agüero y Osma would become his main benefactor by leaving him most of his assets as an inheritance, as it was then a more religious educational institution and linked to the Catholic Church; in contrast to his alma mater and original destination of his inheritance, the National University of San Marcos, where Riva-Agüero considered that liberal ideas and atheism predominated here. 28th Lima Film Festival
The 28th Lima Film Festival, organized by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, took place from 8–17 August 2024 in Lima, Peru. The awards were announced on 17 August 2024, with '' Simon of the Mountain'' winning the Trophy Spondylus. Background On July 3, 2024, the Lima Film Festival officially announced its 28th edition under the motto "The Ritual of Cinema" (). The festival will take place from August 8 to 17, 2024. San Isidro District, Lima
San Isidro is an upscale Districts of Peru, district of the Lima Province in Peru. It is located in the west center of the city, it has a few meters of coastline. Officially created on April 24, 1931, San Isidro, along with Orrantia and Country Club neighborhoods, was separated from Miraflores District, Lima, Miraflores. Cinema Of Latin America
Latin American cinema refers collectively to the film output and film industries of Latin America. Latin American film is both rich and diverse, but the main centers of production have been Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Latin American cinema flourished after the introduction of sound, which added a linguistic barrier to the export of Hollywood film south of the border. History The origins of early filmmaking is generally associated with Salvador Toscano Barragán. In 1898 Toscano made Mexico's second film with a plot, titled ''Don Juan Tenorio''. Spondylus
''Spondylus'' is a genus of bivalve molluscs, the only genus in the family Spondylidae and subfamily Spondylinae. They are known in English as spiny oysters or thorny oysters (although they are not, in fact, true oysters, but are related to scallops). Description The many species of ''Spondylus'' vary considerably in appearance. They are grouped in the same superfamily as the scallops. They are not closely related to true oysters (family Ostreidae); however, they do share some habits such as cementing themselves to rocks rather than attaching themselves by a byssus. The two halves of their shells are joined with a ball-and-socket type of hinge, rather than with a toothed hinge as is more common in other bivalves.
