El Nueve De Rocha
El Nueve de Rocha (channel 9), also known under its former commercial name of Telerocha, is a Uruguayan commercial television station licensed to Rocha, capital of the department of the same name. History The station set up its equipment in 1964, the first case in which all of its equipment was assembled within Uruguay. Subsequently, on January 27, 1966, the government gave a license for Telerocha to operate on VHF channel 7. Broadcasts started on August 7, 1966. In its early weeks, the station broadcast entirely during evening hours. On weeknights it turned on its transmitter at 7pm, airing a test pattern with regular programming following at 7:30pm. On Saturdays, programming started at 7pm and on Sundays, at 6:30pm. The station at the time aired local news, plays, American TV series and some dubbed feature films. La Red (The Network) is a Uruguayan television network based out of Montevideo that feeds programming from the three commercial television stations of the capital (4, 10, 12) to television stations in the Uruguayan inland. The three stations also share the network's ownership. Some stations affiliated to the network are owned by one of the three groups. History On July 24, 1980, during the dictatorship, the Romay (Monte Carlo), Fontaina-De Feo (SAETA) and De Scheck (Teledoce) groups signed a resolution for an inland television network to combat the reception of television stations from Brazil and Argentina, which were easily available in border areas due to spillover. Fray Bentos () is the capital city of the RÃo Negro Department, in south-western Uruguay, at the Argentina-Uruguay border, near the Argentine city of Gualeguaychú.
