Kef Governorate
Kef Governorate ( ' ) is one of the twenty-four governorates of Tunisia. It comprises chiefly part of the dorsal Atlas Mountains and their foothills in north-western Tunisia, bordering Algeria. Dahmani
Dahmani, formerly Abbah Quşūr (alternative spellings Abbah Qusur or Ebba Ksour), is a town and commune in the Kef Governorate, Tunisia. As of 2004 it had a population of 14,061. It is located at 625 meters above sea level, 225 kilometers southwest of Tunis. History Near the village known today as Medeina, 9 km to the southwest, is the archaeological site of Althiburos an ancient numidian city, and former Roman town hall. From 1941 on, it became a parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tunis. In 1943 it accommodated the American troops engaged in the combat on the African front during World War II. Vicus Maracitanus
Vicus Maracitanus was a civitas of the Roman Province of Roman North Africa that has been identified with ruins at 36° 01′ 04″ N, 9° 13′ 47″ E the modern village of Ksar-Toual-Zouameul (just south of El Ksour) in Siliana province Tunisia. The remains are scattered over an area of abpout 800m with a temple and Basilica still evident. The Princeton encyclopedia of classical sites describes the town as: The modest country town is unquestionably pre-Roman in origin. The chief monument, the Capitolium, which is in the form of a temple with a pronaos that was probably hexastyle, stood on the square of a forum opposite a larger building of unknown purpose.
