El Indio Mine
El Indio is a closed gold mine in the Andes of Coquimbo Region, Chile. The mine lies at about 4,000 m a.s.l. in the catchment of Elqui River about 10 km west of the Argentina–Chile border. The mine lies in a larger gold district known as El Indio Gold Belt. Some gold-rich veins of El Indio were exploited by ''pirquineros'' in 1972 and 1973 and ore was moved downhill with mules until a point where trucks could load it. Enargite
Enargite is a copper arsenic sulfosalt mineral with formula Cu3AsS4. It takes its name from the Greek word , "distinct". Enargite is a steel gray, blackish gray, to violet black mineral with metallic luster. It forms slender orthorhombic prisms as well as massive aggregates. It has a hardness of 3 and a specific gravity of 4.45. Enargite is dimorph of the tetragonal luzonite. Occurrence It is a medium to low temperature hydrothermal mineral occurring with quartz, pyrite, sphalerite, galena, bornite, tetrahedrite–tennantite, chalcocite, covellite and baryte. It occurs in the mineral deposits at Butte, Montana, San Juan Mountains, Colorado and at both Bingham Canyon and Tintic, Utah. Decreto Ley 600 is a Chilean law issued by the Government Junta of Chile in July 1974 to establish a new regulatory framework for direct foreign investment aiming to attract investment to Chile. It is considered an important milestone in the transformation of the Chilean economy that led it to become more export-oriented, and was reportedly also parto of the rise of "neoliberalism" in the country. Most investment in mining done under the regime of Decreto Ley 600 came from the companies based in the United States. Empresa Nacional de Minería (National Mining Enterprise) better known by its acronym ENAMI is a Chilean state-owned mining company based in Santiago. Its business involve purchasing ore, primarily from small and medium-scale mining, processing it is and selling the processed product, usually copper, in the international market.
