El Desencanto
''El desencanto'' (The Disenchantment) is a 1976 Spanish documentary film written and directed by Jaime Chávarri about the family of famous poet Leopoldo Panero. It tells the story of the Panero family told by themselves twelve years after the death of patriarch Leopoldo Panero, a poet of Francoist Spain. The documentary is based on the testimony of the remaining four members: the poet's widow, Felicidad Blanc, and the couple's three sons: Juan Luis, Leopoldo Maria and Michi.Torres, ''Diccionario Espasa Cine Español'', p.170 In their intertwined testimonies, they deal with family relations, the weight of their shared past and about themselves. Jaime Chávarri
Jaime Chávarri (born 20 March 1943) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter, best known for his films ''El desencanto'' and '' Las bicicletas son para el verano''. Life and career Chávarri comes from a prominent family. His mother María de la Mora y Maura (1907 – Segovia, Sotosalbos, 1 November 2001) was a maternal granddaughter of Antonio Maura. He had already graduated as a lawyer, when he entered the Escuela Oficial de Cine (EOC) in 1968.D’Lugo, ''Guide to the Cinema of Spain'', p. 139 He abandoned his formal film studies in his second year, moving into film criticism. Astorga () is a municipality and city of Spain located in the central area of the province of León, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León, southwest of the provincial capital.
