El-Kanemi Warriors
El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club is a football team based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. Their play ground is the El-Kanemi Stadium, Maiduguri. The club is on a positive rebound having gained promotion to the 2024–25 Nigeria Premier Football League, Nigeria Premier Football League in 2024 and doubling as the winners of the Federation Cup in the same year. History El-Kanemi Warriors ended the 2005 season in the lower half of the Nigeria Premier League, and were relegated to the Nigeria Division 1 in 2007. In 2012, they were promoted back to the top level. Due to the Boko Haram insurgency in 2014, they played their home games in Kano (city), Kano. From 2015 to 2016, they hosted their home games at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina (city), Katsina before returning to Maiduguri and El-Kanemi Stadium. Abdulwaheed Afolabi (born 8 December 1991) is a Nigerian professional football player who plays for Beninese club Loto-Popo FC. The Nigeria National League (NNL) (formerly the National Division 1) is the second-highest overall in the Nigerian football league system after the Nigeria Premier Football League, and is currently contested by 46 clubs. The 2024 Nigeria Federation Cup is the 76th edition of the Nigerian Federation Cup. The tournament began with the National playoffs on 12 April and concluded with the final on 29 June. El-Kanemi Warriors won their third title and first in 32 years with a 2–0 win over Abia Warriors in the final. This year, the format remains unchanged, except for a slight modification in the number of qualifying clubs. 70 clubs instead of the usual 74 qualified as finalists in the tournaments held across the different states of Nigeria as Yobe failed to enter a team, while Borno and Adamawa states entered just a team each.
