Ekuku is a village located nearly north of Oshakati in Okatana Constituency Okatana Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshana Region of Namibia. Okatana Senior Primary School is a Catholic school established by Finnish missionaries in 1932. The village has been identified as a suitable site for permanent relocation for three of the 10 informal settlements at the Oshakati town. Oshakati
Oshakati is a town in northern Namibia. It is the regional capital of the Oshana Region and one of Namibia's largest places. Oshakati was founded in July 1966 and proclaimed a town in 1992. The town was used as a base of operations by the South African Defence Force (SADF) during the South African Border War. History In Oshiwambo, the language of the Ovambo people, the town's name means "that which is in between", although some believe that the name (Oshakati, also Otshakati) was used to refer to the broadcasting tower ( high), the tallest structure in the town centre and in Namibia. On 19 February 1988, a bomb blast occurred in Oshakati at the First National Bank, killing 27 people and badly injuring nearly 30 others, most of them nurses and teachers. No one was ever convicted of the bombing and the issue was dropped upon independence in 1990 in favour of national reconciliation. Okatana Constituency
Okatana Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshana Region of Namibia. It had 15,562 inhabitants in 2004 and 9,111 registered voters . Its district capital is the settlement of Okatana. Politics Oktana constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party. In the 2015 local and regional elections the SWAPO candidate won uncontested and became councillor after no opposition party nominated a candidate. The SWAPO candidate won the 2020 regional election by a large margin. Edmund Iishuwa obtained 3,477 votes, followed by George Uusiku of the Independent Patriots for Change The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) is a political party in Namibia. Oshana is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Oshakati.
