Ekhlasuddin Ahmed
Ekhlasuddin Ahmed (15 December 1940 – 24 December 2014) was a Bangladeshi children's writer. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak, one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh, in 2000. Early life and career Ahmed was born in 1940 in the 24 Parganas district of West Bengal province. He is also a journalist and has been associated with the ''Daily Janakantha Daily Janakantha ( bn, দৈনিক জনকণ্ঠ ''Dainik Janakanṭha'' "Daily People's Voice") is a Bengali daily newspaper published from Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is owned by Janakantha Shilpa Paribar (GJSP). This newspaper was first publ ...''. Among the awards he has received are the "Kabir Chowdhury Children's Literary Award" of the Bangla Academy (2004), Uro Child Literature Award (2007), Alaol Literary Award and the Shishu Academy Award. 24 Parganas
24 Parganas district (''cabbiś pargaṇā jēlā'') is a former district of the Indian state of West Bengal. The district was split into two districts — North 24 Parganas district and South 24 Parganas district, with effect from 1 March 1980. Etymology The name is derived from the number of parganas or divisions contained in the Zamindari of Calcutta which was ceded to the East India Company by Mir Jafar in 1757. Ekushey Padak
Ekushey Padak ( bn, একুশে পদক; lit. "Twentyfirst Award") is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The award is given to recognize contributions in a number of fields, including culture, education, and economics. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the award. The award consists of an 18 carat gold medal weighing 3 tolas and a certificate of honour. The medal was designed by the artist Nitun Kundu. The amount of the cash reward was originally ৳ 25,000, but it was subsequently increased to ৳ 100,000 in 2015. Next it was increased to tk 2,00,000 in 2017 and to tk 4,00,000 as of November 2019. Children's literature or juvenile literature includes stories, books, magazines, and poems that are created for children. Modern children's literature is classified in two different ways: genre or the intended age of the reader. Daily Janakantha ( bn, দৈনিক জনকণ্ঠ ''Dainik Janakanṭha'' "Daily People's Voice") is a Bengali daily newspaper published from Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is owned by Janakantha Shilpa Paribar (GJSP). This newspaper was first published on 21 February 1993. Mohammad Atikullah Khan Masud was the editor of the newspaper till his death. The Bangla Academy ( bn, বাংলা একাডেমি, ) is an autonomous institution funded by the Government of Bangladesh, Bangladesh government to foster the Bengali language, literature and culture, to develop and implement national language policy and to do original research in the Bengali language. Established in 1955, it is located in Burdwan House in Ramna, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.
