Eisstadion Inzell
The Max Aicher Arena (in the past also known as Eisstadion Inzell and Ludwig-Schwabl-Stadion) is a stadium located in Inzell, Germany, best known as a speed skating venue. It is an indoor, artificial ice rink, located 690 metres (2,264 feet) above sea level and has a capacity of 10,000 people. Since its opening, as an outdoor venue, towards the end of 1965, more than 80 world records in speed skating have been broken here, and until the advent of indoor speed skating arenas, it was known as the fastest European speed skating rink, second in the world after the Medeu rink. The stadium is also used for ice hockey, ice speedway, and (in the summer months) roller skating. Inzell
Inzell is a municipality in the district of Traunstein in Bavaria, Germany. It is known for the Eisstadion Inzell, an outdoor artificial ice rink that has been used for many international speed skating championships. It is now an indoor oval. Geography Inzell lies in a wide valley floor in the Chiemgau Alps, framed by the mountains of Rauschberg, Zinnkopf, Teisenberg and the massif of Staufen. In the municipality, the confluence of the Großwaldbach and Falkenseebach rivers forms the Rote Traun river. Inzell is also known as the gateway to Berchtesgaden National Park due to the ''Zwing'', a mountain passage between Inzell and Weißbach, which separates the Chiemgau from Berchtesgaden. History The independent municipality of Inzell was created in 1818 as a result of administrative reform in Bavaria. Thomas Krol (born 16 August 1992) is a Dutch speed skater who is specialized in the 1000m and 1500m. Career Krol finished third at the ISU World Cup 1500m event in Berlin in December 2014. Traunstein (district)
Traunstein is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the southeastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Mühldorf, Altötting, the Austrian states Upper Austria and Salzburg, the district Berchtesgadener Land, the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol, and the district Rosenheim. Geography The district is located in the northern foothills of the Alps. The Chiemsee is located in the west of the district. History In 1972 the district was merged with parts of the former district Laufen, and the previously independent urban district Traunstein. Coat of arms The coat of arms shows a blue panther to the left, the symbol of the Spanheim dynasty of the Counts of Krainburg-Ortenburg, who owned part of the area in medieval times.
