Eisenbahn State Trail
The Eisenbahn State Trail is a multi-purpose trail designated as a park by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The trail is maintained by the counties through which it transgresses, Washington and Fond du Lac counties. The trail extends 25 miles, from the village of Eden in the north () to Rusco Road, south of West Bend (). The trail follows the route of the former Fox Valley Railroad. Route description The trail is 25 miles long. It passes through the cities of West Bend, Kewaskum, Campbellsport, and ends at the Community Park in Eden, running along the west side of the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest and crossing the Ice Age Trail. The trail is partially paved and partially covered in crushed limestone. A ribbon-cutting ceremony opening a connection to the Moraine Park Technical College Campus in West Bend occurred on September 4, 2014. Kettle Moraine State Forest
The Kettle Moraine State Forest is a state forest in southeastern Wisconsin. The chief feature of the reserve is the Kettle Moraine, a highly glaciated area. The area contains very hilly terrain and glacial landforms, such as kettles, kames and eskers. The forest is divided into two large and three small units, which are spread across a hundred miles. The forest includes of hiking trails, almost of cross-country ski trails, of equestrian trails, of snowmobile trails, of off-road bicycle trails including of singletrack trail, and 750 campsites. All units include a portion of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and most units have horse/snowmobile trails. Several areas of trail loops for hiking, biking and skiing can be found in the northern and southern units. The Fox River Valley Railroad was a short-lived railroad in eastern Wisconsin, US from 1988 to 1993 with about 214 miles of track, all of which was former Chicago and North Western Railway trackage. The Chicago and North Western was a Class I railroad in the Midwestern United States. It was also known as the "North Western". The railroad operated more than of track at the turn of the 20th century, and over of track in seven states before retrenchment in the late 1970s. Rail trails are typically constructed after a railway has been abandoned and the track has been removed but may also share the rail corridor with active railways, light rail, or streetcars ( rails with trails), or with disused track. Kettle Moraine is a large moraine in the state of Wisconsin, United States. It stretches from Walworth County in the south to Kewaunee County in the north. It has also been referred to as the ''Kettle Range'' and, in geological texts, as the ''Kettle Interlobate Moraine''. Ice Age Trail
The Ice Age Trail is a National Scenic Trail stretching in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. The trail is administered by the National Park Service, and is constructed and maintained by private and public agencies including the Ice Age Trail Alliance, a non-profit and member-volunteer based organization with local chapters. It became an official unit of the National Park System in 2023. Route The trail roughly follows the location of the terminal moraine from the last Ice Age. As the route traverses the moraine, it sometimes meanders into areas west of the moraine, including the Driftless Area in southwestern Wisconsin. Campbellsport is a village in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,907 at the 2020 census. It is situated in the rolling hills of the Northern Kettle Moraine in Southeastern Wisconsin and is located on State Highway 67, between US Highways 41 and 45. Kewaskum, Wisconsin
Kewaskum is a village in Washington and Fond du Lac counties in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,309 at the 2020 census. All of this population resided in the Washington County portion of the village. The village is mostly surrounded by the Town of Kewaskum. Toponymy Kewaskum was the leader of a group of Potawatomi Native Americans who lived in Washington County in the 1840s. He was friendly with the early settlers, including future Wisconsin state senator Densmore Maxon. He died sometime between 1847 and 1850. In 1849, the early settlers named the Town of Kewaskum (and later the village) in his honor. In the Potawatomi language, Kewaskum means "turning back on his tracks" or "retracing his steps."
