Eirodziesma 2011
Latvia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song "Angel in Disguise" written by Marats Ogļezņevs, and performed by the duo Musiqq. The Latvian participating broadcaster, (LTV), organised the national final ''Eirodziesma 2011'' in order to select its entry for the contest. Twenty songs were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of four shows: two heats, one Second Chance round and a final. In the heats, five entries were selected to advance from each show: three entries selected based on a public televote and two entries selected by a seven-member jury panel. In the Second Chance round, two entries were selected to advance: one selected based on a public vote and one selected by the jury. Twelve songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 26 February 2011 where two rounds of voting by the public and jury selected "Angel in Disguise" performed by Musiqq as the winner. Latvijas Televīzija (''Latvian Television'', LTV) is the state-owned public service broadcasting, public service television broadcaster in Latvia. LTV operates two channels, LTV1 in Latvian language, Latvian and LTV7 (previously called LTV2) in Latvian with selected programming in Russian language, Russian. The broadcaster has been fully funded by the state budget since 1 January 2021, when, after years of debate, it and radio broadcaster Latvijas Radio exited the Television advertisement, advertising market. Māris Martinsons
Māris Martinsons (born 25 July 1960) is a Latvian film director, producer, screenwriter and film editor. From 1991 he has lived and worked in Lithuania, but moved back to his homeland Latvia in 2010. Biography After graduating from the Latvia Conservatoires in 1989 as a drama theatre director, Martinsons worked with Latvian musicians as an independent director/producer of music video clips. His first music video clip, "This is My Car" by the band Jumprava, was the first independent video in Latvia’s history and it received the best video award from eferencein 1989/1990. The Eurovision Song Contest (), often known simply as Eurovision, is an international song competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) among its members since 1956. Esther Hart (singer)
Esther Hart (born Esther Katinka Hartkamp on 3 June 1970 in Epe, Gelderland) is a Dutch singer. Career Hart entered BBC TV's ''A Song for Europe'' contest in 2003 with the song "Wait for the Moment". She withdrew from that contest as participating for two countries would not have been acceptable for both BBC and NOS. Cornald Maas (born 22 July 1962) is a Dutch people, Dutch television presenter who has been known for presenting talk shows in the Netherlands. He is the brother of Frans Maas. Valters Frīdenbergs
Valters Frīdenbergs (26 October 1987 – 17 October 2018) was a Latvian musician, singer and TV-presenter. He was best known for representing Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 as part of Valters and Kaža duo with the song "The War Is Not Over", written by Mārtiņš Freimanis, finishing in fifth place with 153 points. In , Valters made a solo effort to represent with his song "For A Better Tomorrow" but failed to qualify from the semi-final. Two years later he became the Latvian commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest succeeding Kārlis Streips. He filled this role until his illness and subsequent death. Triana Park
Triana Park () is a Latvian group founded in 2008 consisting of lead vocalist and founder Agnese Rakovska, guitarist Artūrs Strautiņš, drummer Edgars Viļums and bassist Kristaps Ērglis. Their style combines pop and electronic with hints of hip-hop and rock. Kārlis Būmeisters
Kārlis Būmeisters (born December 13, 1986, in Riga) is a Latvian musician, artist, guitarist and TV host once using the stage name Kaža. He is now in politics in the European Parliament in Brussels as a press secretary for the European Parliament Member Roberts Zīle who is part of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group. Biography From the age of three, Būmeister appeared as a child singer on Latvian television. He eventually hosted the award-winning show ''Lie Lab'' on LTV. Būmeisters' musical career continued with the band Dzeguzīte. He then became a member of Putnu Balle, a musical band formed in 2002 with Mārtiņš Freimanis (a former member of the famous Latvian band Tumsa). Mārtiņš Freimanis
Mārtiņš Freimanis (7 February 1977 – 27 January 2011) was a Latvian musician, singer, songwriter, actor, and TV personality. Freimanis was born in Liepāja, but spent his childhood in Aizpute. Career Music Mārtiņš Freimanis was the lead singer and songwriter of the popular Latvian rock band "Tumsa". They released 6 albums under the "Microphone Records" label. He also collaborated with other Latvian musicians, writing music, lyrics or both for them.
