Eiger (planet)
HD 130322 b, officially named Eiger, is an exoplanet with a minimum mass slightly more than that of Jupiter. It orbits the star in a very close orbit distance being only a quarter that of Mercury from the Sun. It is thus a so-called "hot Jupiter". The planet orbits the star every 10 days 17 hours in a very circular orbit. Naming The planet HD 130322 b is named Eiger. The name was selected in the NameExoWorlds campaign by Switzerland, during the 100th anniversary of the IAU. Eiger is one of the prominent peaks of the Bernese Alps. The first confirmed detection of an exoplanet was in 1992 around a pulsar, and the first detection around a main-sequence star was in 1995. List Of Exoplanets Discovered Before 2000
This is a list of exoplanets discovered before 2000. For exoplanets detected only by radial velocity, the mass value is actually a lower limit. (See Minimum mass for more information.) While the existence of a substellar companion to Gamma Cephei was suspected since 1988, the planet Gamma Cephei Ab was not confirmed until 2003, and that is listed as its discovery year in exoplanet databases. The Eiger () is a mountain of the Bernese Alps, overlooking Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland, just north of the main watershed and border with Valais. NameExoWorlds (also known as IAU NameExoWorlds) were various projects managed by the International Astronomical Union (I.A.U.) to encourage names to be submitted for astronomical objects, notably exoplanets. The accepted names would later be considered for official adoption by the organization. Michel Mayor
Michel Gustave Édouard Mayor (; born 12 January 1942) is a Swiss astrophysicist and professor emeritus at the University of Geneva's Department of Astronomy. He formally retired in 2007, but remains active as a researcher at the Observatory of Geneva.
