Eifion Jones (cricketer)
Eifion Wyn Jones (born 25 June 1942 in Velindre, Glamorgan) was a Welsh cricketer who played for Glamorgan County Cricket Club. When he first came to Glamorgan, Jones was a specialist right-handed batsman but after being tutored by Phil Clift he became a wicketkeeper. He made his first-class debut in 1961, and served as deputy keeper to David Evans until the late 1960s, when he became the county's first-choice keeper, a position he held until 1982. He had a record 933 dismissals for his county. In 1970 he took 7 dismissals in an innings against Cambridge University, and finished the season with 94 dismissals. However, the continued good form of Alan Knott and Bob Taylor kept him out of consideration for the Test team. Felindre, Swansea
Felindre is a rural village in the City and County of Swansea, south Wales. Felindre is located in the far north of the city of Swansea, in the electoral ward of Mawr. The nearby Lower Lliw Reservoirs are a popular venue for walking and fishing. The water mill in the village was working until the late 1960s, there was also an abattoir and a post office in the village. It has three shops. There is also a public house in the village, the Shepherds Inn. The primary school in the village was Welsh speaking and closed in 2019. Phil Clift
Phil Brittain Clift (3 September 1918 – 22 May 2005) was a Welsh cricketer active from 1937 to 1955 who played for Glamorgan. He was born in Usk, Monmouthshire, and died in Cardiff. He appeared in 183 first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled off breaks. David Evans (umpire)
David Gwilym Lloyd Evans (27 July 1933 – 25 March 1990) was a cricketer who played as a wicketkeeper for Glamorgan from 1956 to 1969 and then became a first-class umpire in 1971, standing in nine Tests from 1981 to 1985. Cricketer Born at Lambeth, London, but brought up in West Wales, Evans joined Glamorgan in the mid-1950s and became first-choice wicketkeeper after the retirement of Haydn Davies at the end of the 1958 season. For several seasons at the start of the 1960s, he was at or near the top of the wicketkeeping lists of dismissals with 79, 82 and then 89 dismissals in the seasons from 1961 to 1963. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, established in 1820, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. The club was recognised as holding first-class cricket, first-class status until 2020. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. Alan Knott
Alan Philip Eric Knott (born 9 April 1946) is a former cricketer who represented England at international level in both Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODI). Knott is widely regarded as one of the most eccentric characters in cricket and as one of the greatest wicket-keepers ever to play the game. He was described by cricket journalist Simon Wilde as "a natural gloveman, beautifully economical in his movements and armed with tremendous powers of concentration". Bob Taylor (cricketer)
Robert William Taylor MBE (born 17 July 1941) is an English former cricketer who played as wicket-keeper for Derbyshire between 1961 and 1984 and for England between 1971 and 1984. He made 57 Test, and 639 first-class cricket appearances in total, taking 1,473 catches. The 2,069 victims across his entire career is the most of any wicket-keeper in first-class history. He is considered one of the world's most accomplished wicket-keepers. He made his first-class debut for Minor Counties against South Africa in 1960, having made his Staffordshire debut in 1958.
