Egyptian (band)
Egyptian was an American indie rock duo band and the side project of formerly married singers Dan Reynolds and Aja Volkman. Formation Invited to perform an opening set for Nico Vega, Dan Reynolds met Aja Volkman in 2010. He invited her to help him finish some demos he was working on. The two began a collaborative process which they titled Egyptian. They recorded, produced, and released independently a four track eponymous Extended Play, EP digitally. Their other bands Imagine Dragons and Nico Vega have also toured together in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge subgenre in the United States, and the Britpop and shoegaze subgenres in the United Kingdom and Ireland. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many Arena rock, corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. Daniel Coulter Reynolds (born July 14, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is the lead vocalist and a founding member of the pop rock band Imagine Dragons, which formed in 2008. He is a recipient of the Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award. Early life Reynolds was born in Las Vegas, the seventh of nine children (eight boys and one girl) of Christene M. Aja Volkman (; born March 4, 1980) is an American singer and songwriter, best known as the frontwoman of the indie rock band Nico Vega. She has also released an EP titled ''Egyptian'' as a duo with her then husband Dan Reynolds (of Imagine Dragons) under the moniker Egyptian. Personal life Volkman is the daughter of James Volkman and artist Rogene Manas. She attended South Eugene High School and graduated in the class of 1998 at the age of 18. She was married to the lead singer of Imagine Dragons, Dan Reynolds, on March 5, 2011. They have three daughters and a son. Their oldest daughter was born August 2012, fraternal twin girls in March 2017, and their son in October 2019.
