Egersund
Egersund is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town in Eigersund municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The town is located along the southwestern coast of Norway, about south of the city of Stavanger (city), Stavanger. The town is situated along a strait which separates the mainland from the island of Eigerøya. From 1838 until 1964, the town was also an independent municipality. The town has a population (2019) of 11,433 and a population density of . Egersund has one of the best natural harbours in Norway, and it used to be the largest harbour in Norway when measured in quantity of fish brought in each year (surpassed by Ålesund in 2006). The tidal range, the difference in height between high tide and low tide, is practically zero due to the presence of an amphidromic point. Eigersund is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is in the Traditional districts of Norway, traditional district of Dalane. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Egersund. The town was known for its pottery factory (closed in 1979) and it is among Norway's biggest fishing ports. The villages of Helleland, Hellvik, and Hestnes are also in Eigersund. The island of Eigerøya lies just off shore from Egersund. Egersund Church
Egersund Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Eigersund municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the centre of the town of Egersund. It is one of the two churches for the Egersund parish which is part of the Dalane prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform style in 1623 using designs by an unknown architect. The church seats about 1,090 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1292, but it was not new that year. The first church may have been a stave church and it was dedicated to St. Mary. In 1292 it was written about in a letter from the Pope and it was called "" (St. Mary's Church of Egersund). Stavanger, officially the Stavanger Municipality, is a city and municipality in Norway. It is the third largest city and third largest metropolitan area in Norway (through conurbation with neighboring Sandnes) and the administrative center of Rogaland county. Dalane
Dalane is a traditional district in the southwestern part of Norway, consisting of the municipalities of Lund, Sokndal, Eigersund, and Bjerkreim. Dalane is one of the 15 districts in Western Norway. It sits to the southeast of the very flat Jæren region and south of the moorland of Ryfylke. The district has about 24,159 residents (as of 2014). Eigerøya
Eigerøya is an island in Eigersund municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies just off the mainland coast in the town of Egersund. The highest point on the island is the tall ''Varden''. The U-shaped island is divided into two parts by the ''Lundarviga'' bay. The northwestern (smaller) side of the island is called ''Nordre Eigerøya'' and the larger side on the southeast is called ''Søre Eigerøya''.
