Edwin Pimbury
Edwin Pimbury (January 3, 1834 – April 6, 1909) was an English-born farmer, merchant and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Cowichan in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1875 to 1882. He was born in Hyde, Gloucestershire, the son of Samuel Cosburn Pimbury, and was educated in Minchinhampton. Pimbury apprenticed in the drug business and, unable to purchase a business in England, travelled to Portland, Maine and then to Portage, Wisconsin, where he established a business. In 1856, following a downturn in the economy, he journeyed to California, but finding his opportunities there limited, went prospecting for gold in Arizona. He then left for British Columbia with his brother. Pimbury farmed for a time with his brothers near Victoria but then took a job in a drug business in Victoria. Nanaimo ( ) is a city of about 100,000 on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. "The Harbour City" was previously known as the "Hub City", which was attributed to its original layout design with streets radiating from the shoreline like the spokes of a wagon wheel, and to its relatively central location on Vancouver Island. Duncan is a city on southern Vancouver Island in the Cowichan Valley Regional District, British Columbia, Canada. It is the smallest city in Canada by area. It was incorporated as a city in 1912. Location The city is about 45 kilometres from both Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria to the south and Nanaimo to the north. Although the City of Duncan has a population of just over 5,000, it serves the Cowichan Valley which has a population of approximately 90,000, many of whom live in North Cowichan and Cowichan Tribes. This gives Duncan a much larger perceived "greater" population than that contained within the city limits.
