Edwin McCarthy
Sir Edwin McCarthy (30 March 18964 September 1980) was a senior Australian public servant and diplomat. He was a prominent senior trade official, including as head of the Department of Commerce and Agriculture between 1945 and 1950. Life and career McCarthy was born in Walhalla, Victoria on 30 March 1896 to parents Catherine McCarthy (née Kennedy) and Daniel McCarthy. He joined the Commonwealth Public Service as a messenger in the Postmaster-General's Department in April 1911. McCarthy married Marjorie Mary Graham on 4 July 1939 in Sydney. The couple had two children: a daughter, and a son, John McCarthy. From 1945 to 1950, McCarthy was Secretary of the Department of Commerce and Agriculture. His primary expertise was grain commodity matters, and he devised the Australian wheat price stabilisation scheme after World War II. John Crawford (economist)
Sir John Grenfell Crawford (4 April 1910 – 28 October 1984) was an agricultural economist and a key architect of Australia's post-war growth. Early life, education and family Born in Hurstville, New South Wales, Hurstville, Sydney, Crawford was the tenth of twelve children of Henry Crawford and Harriet Isabel Crawford, née Wood. Crawford was educated at Sydney Boys High School and the University of Sydney. Crawford married Jessie Morgan on 18 May 1935 and together they had a daughter. Walter Crocker
Sir Walter Russell Crocker (25 March 190214 November 2002) was an Australian diplomat, writer and war veteran. Life and career Crocker was born in Broken Hill, New South Wales, the eldest son of Robert Crocker and Alma Bray. He served in World War II with the British Army, becoming a lieutenant colonel. He was ambassador or high commissioner to eleven countries, including India (twice), Indonesia, Canada, Italy, Belgium, Nepal, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. Crocker was a Lieutenant-Governor of South Australia for more than nine years. He and his wife, Claire, had two sons, Robert and Christopher. Books Crocker authored a well-received biography of Jawaharlal Nehru titled '' Nehru: A Contemporary's Estimate'' (1966).
