Edward Stevens (1745 – August 17, 1820Rogers, 376.) was an officer in the American Revolutionary War and later a state legislator for Virginia, serving in the Virginia Senate.Rogers, 375. He was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1794. Stevens began his military career as a lieutenant colonel in the 1775 Battle of Great Bridge, where he commanded a battalion of riflemen,Rogers, 373. the Culpeper Minutemen. Stevens distinguished himself in the battle and was given a command as colonel of the 10th Virginia Regiment. Stevens raised and equipped his regiment and marched to rendezvous with General George Washington, his direct commander.Rogers, 374. Lumpy Stevens
Edward "Lumpy" Stevens (1735 – 7 September 1819) was an English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket in the 18th century. He was an outstanding bowler who is generally regarded as the first great bowler in the game's history. He was universally known by his nickname and was always called "Lumpy" in contemporary scorecards and reports. Cricket career Stevens was born in 1735 at Send, Surrey. The beginning of Stevens' career, in 1756, was before scorecards began to be kept on a regular basis. It is not known if Stevens was the first to "give the ball air", but he was certainly around when that particular revolution occurred, probably before 1770. What is known is that Stevens was the bowler who made the most careful study of flight and worked out all the implications of variations in pace, length and direction mentioned above. Eddie Stevens
Eddie Stevens is a British keyboardist, record producer, composer and arranger, best known for co-writing, arranging and touring with the UK groups Freakpower (with Norman Cook aka Fat Boy Slim); Moloko (as of 2000); and Zero 7. He continued to work with the Moloko frontwoman, Róisín Murphy, on her solo projects since 2004. After helping Murphy sequence the songs on '' Ruby Blue'', Stevens became part of her live band throughout the 2005 European 'Ruby Blue' tour. In late 2007 and early 2008 Stevens toured with Murphy on her 'Overpowered' tour throughout Europe. More recently he worked on the album ''Some People Have Real Problems'' with Australian vocalist Sia (which was released in early 2008). Stevens also forms half of the London-based electronic duo, Post Office; the other half being Daniel Darriba. Ed Stevens (baseball)
Edward Lee "Big Ed" Stevens (January 12, 1925 – July 22, 2012) was a first baseman in Major League Baseball who played from 1945 through 1950 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Listed at 6' 1", 190 lb., he batted and threw left-handed. Born in Galveston, Texas, Stevens was originally signed as a 16-year-old by the Dodgers. He played minor league ball in parts of four seasons before joining the big team in 1945. As a rookie, he shared duties at first with incumbent Augie Galan, posting a .274 batting average with four home runs and 29 runs batted in in 55 games. Stevens became a regular in 1946, ending with a .242 and 60 RBI in 103 games, while his 10 home runs were the second-highest on the team, being surpassed only by Pete Reiser (11). Although he had been the regular in that season, Stevens was replaced at first base by Jackie Robinson in 1947. Edward Stevens, FRSE (21 February 1754 – 26 September 1834) was an Antiguan-born physician and diplomat. A close friend of American statesman Alexander Hamilton, Stevens played a major role in the American response to the Haitian Revolution. Early life Stevens was born in Antigua on 21 February 1754. Stevens's father, a Scottish merchant named Thomas Stevens who was the landlord of Rachel Fawcette, Hamilton's mother, would later become the adoptive father of the orphaned Alexander Hamilton. Stevens was one of five children. He quickly became good friends with his adopted brother Hamilton, displaying many similar mannerisms. Both were interested in classics, spoke the French language fluently, and were interested in medicine. Contemporaries would often remark that Edward Stevens and Hamilton looked very much alike.
