Edward Muallem
Edward Muallem (born 1958 in Mi'ilya) is a Palestinian actor, director, and drama trainer specialized in Theatre of the Oppressed. He holds a degree in Theatre Studies and co-founded El-Hakawati Theatre Company in Jerusalem in 1977 and ASHTAR Theatre in 1991, serving as its General Director until 2021. Muallem conducted drama workshops for children and youth since 1994. Beginning in 2004, he expanded his work internationally, leading Forum Theatre workshops in several countries. Mi'ilya
Mi'ilya (, ), also called Mi'elya, is an Arab local council in the western Galilee in the Northern District of Israel. Its name during the Kingdom of Jerusalem era in Galilee was Castellum Regis. In it had a population of , all of whom are Melkite Greek Catholics. The town is located immediately to the northwest of Ma'alot-Tarshiha. History Archaeological excavations in Mi'ilya gives indication of inhabitation from the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age, as well as Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Crusader, Mamluk and Ottoman periods. Theatre Of The Oppressed
The Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) describes theatrical forms that the Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal first elaborated in the 1970s, initially in Brazil and later in Europe. Boal was influenced by the work of the educator and theorist Paulo Freire and his book ''Pedagogy of the Oppressed''. Boal's techniques use theatre as means of promoting social and political change in alignment originally with Far-left politics, radical-left politics and later with centre-left ideology. The Palestinian National Theatre or El-Hakawati Theatre () is a Palestinian-owned theatre in Jerusalem's American Colony neighbourhood, near New Orient House. The theatre has been serving to actively encourage and promote Palestinian artistic and cultural activities and collaborates with the Palestinian ministry of culture, several United Nations organisations, and a wide range of local and international NGOs. Forum theatre is a type of theatre created by Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal. It is one of the techniques under the umbrella term of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO). This relates to the engagement of spectators influencing and engaging with the performance as both spectators and actors, termed "spect-actors", with the power to stop and change the performance. As part of TO, the issues dealt with in forum theatre are often related to areas of social justice, with the aim of exploring solutions to oppression featured in the performance. Mostar Youth Theatre (locally known as ''Mostarski Teatar Mladih'' or MTM) is a city-sponsored community theatre located in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. History Theatre was founded on February 24, 1974. The work of MTM includes a practical drama education for children and young people as well as production of theatre shows.
