Edward Moody
Edward M. Moody is an American politician who formerly served as Cook County recorder of deeds. He was appointed in December 2018, and served until the office was abolished in December 2020. From October 2016 through December 2018, he served as Cook County Commissioner from the 6th district. Before 2016, he served as a Worth Township highway commissioner. Early life Moody and twin brother Fred were born in either 1964 or 1965. When they were 14 years old, their mother died. Their father was an alcoholic. Early political career Moody and his twin brother Fred joined the 13th Ward Democrats, where they campaigned for Michael Madigan and other candidates. Over the years, the Moody twins would come to be considered to be among Michael Madigan's most effective and loyal operatives. Cook County Board of Commissioners 6th district is a single-member electoral district for the Cook County Board of Commissioners. It is currently represented by Donna Miller, a Democrat. History The district was established in 1994, when the board transitioned from holding elections in individual districts, as opposed to the previous practice of having two multi-member districts districts: one for ten members from the city of Chicago and another for seven members from suburban Cook County. Donnna Miller (''née'' Black; born September 7, 1965) is a politician currently serving as a Cook County commissioner, representing the board's 6th district. Early life and career Miller was born "Donna Lynne Black" on September 7, 1965. She spent most of her youth living in Chicago. Miller attended Odgen Elementrary in Chicago. The Cook County Recorder of Deeds was the recorder of deeds of county government in Cook County, Illinois until the position's abolishment in 2020. History of office The office was established in December 1872. Before this, the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County served as the ex-officio recorder of deeds for Cook County, Illinois. On November 8, 2016, Cook County voters approved a binding referendum to eliminate the office, merging its functions into the purview of the Cook County Clerk. The Circuit Court of Cook County is the largest of the 24 judicial circuits in Illinois as well as one of the largest unified court systems in the United States — second only in size to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County since that court merged with other courts in 1998. The modern Cook County Circuit Court was created through a 1964 amendment to the Illinois Constitution which reorganized the courts of Illinois.
